This diploma allows students to study widely across subject areas including: promoting children s agency, implementing strategies for the inclusion of all children, and designing and implementing curriculum to foster the learning and development of children. Educating in this setting is more interactive than instructive- you are on the floor with the kids, not standing at a blackboard in front of them. That is why there is a large practical component included in this diploma program, so you can apply what you are learning and see the results in action. This qualification enables students to work in childcare, in Group Leader or Assistant positions, while they study. 5 THE DETAILS HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? Twelve months is the recommended duration, but you are free to study at your own pace. HOW MANY PRACTICAL ON THE JOB HOURS WILL I ACCRUE? 240 hours. WHAT SUBJECTS WILL I DO IN THE COURSE? Students will study subjects such as nurturing creativity in children, establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for children, facilitating compliance in education and care services and working in partnership with families to provide appropriate education and care for children. HOW IS THIS COURSE DELIVERED? Online and with mentors who are contactable by telephone, , and sometimes in person. There may be videos, podcasts, electronic and hard copy materials. HOW DOES ASSESSMENT WORK? A variety of assessments form part of this course including written answers, role plays and projects. There are no formal written exams. WHEN CAN I START? Pretty soon! A new class starts every two weeks. WHAT ARE MY PAYMENT OPTIONS? If you are an Australian citizen and meet the eligibility requirements, you can apply for VET FEE HELP. Study now, pay later. This is a great option for students who want to get their qualification sooner rather than later, but can t afford to pay the full amount upfront. If you do want to pay upfront, you can contact Churchill to find out what fees apply to you. CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT VET FEE-HELP? VET FEE-HELP is a Commonwealth income contingency loan that assists eligible full-fee paying students to pay their tuition fees. VET FEE-HELP can be used to pay for all or part of an eligible student s tuition fees when studying or using Recognition of Prior Learning for an approved VET course of study at the level of: Diploma. Advanced Diploma. Graduate Diploma. Graduate Certificate. Eligibility is very straightforward. If you are an Australian citizen or permanent humanitarian visa holder, have a tax file number and have not already borrowed your entire limit of educational loans (which is around $100,000, so is unlikely!) then you are eligible. You don t need to worry about a complicated application process. We will guide you through all of the necessary VET FEE-HELP paperwork. All you have to do is make the decision and fill in an application form. There is no application fee and no interest charged. Instead of an application fee and interest, the government charge a loan fee of 20% of the total of the cost of the course. The accumulated debt is also indexed according to the Consumer Price Index on 1st June each year. Upon completion, you will receive a Nationally Recognised Qualification awarded by Churchill Education, a CH50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. Churchill Education is a Registered Training Organisation, RTO: WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS? There are no pre requisites to enrol to study this qualification, although students are expected to have Year 12 or equivalent literacy, numeracy and language skills and intermediate computer skills. The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care includes the requirement for a 240 hour vocational placement in an Early Childhood Education setting. In order to participate in this, you will be required to complete a Working with Children check to comply with the requirements of the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000, and the Child Care Act WHAT SORT OF TECHNOLOGY OR EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED? We recommend Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Internet Explorer 9 or later as a search engine. Access to the internet and is essential, as is a phone line or mobile phone. CAN I GET CREDIT FOR MY PRIOR EXPERIENCE, STUDY OR WORK IN THIS FIELD? You may be able to get credit for some units of this course through RPL, or Recognised Prior Learning. RPL is an approved assessment method in the Australian Vocational Education system. It is a process for acknowledging relevant skills, experience, formal or informal training you may already have, and assigning credit for them towards the qualification you are studying. You may also be able to get credit through Mutual Recognition. If you have completed any other qualifications, be sure to tell us and we will look for any credit you may be eligible for.
