We benefit our community by providing desirable places to live, work and play. Our members are committed to upholding ethical and professional standards while advancing the quality of life in our community. Thank you is not sufficient to express my gratitude to our reverse raffle committee, sponsors, and donors of awesome door prizes, to each one of you who purchased tickets and to those who attended our annual fund raiser, the reverse raffle. I could not let this sequence of thought go by without saying cheers to our board members for taking on the responsibility of selling tickets and special appreciation is certainly required for Dave Erickson and Mike Socci. We have a wonderful association because of you. It was an exciting night for all, and congratulations to our grand winner Rennie Bickerstaff! By now many of you may have heard that Rennie donated his $10, winnings to the Salvation Army. Thank you Rennie for supporting the GCHBA and the example you set. People helping people seemed to be the theme of the night: you supported the association thru ticket purchases, prizes, sponsorships and time, Rennie certainly made a tremendous influence in the lives of many children who attend the Salvation Army summer and after school programs and Tom Moore was bestowed the Golden Hammer Award. For new members and those not familiar with the Golden Hammer Award, it is awarded given by the GCHBA to individuals or organizations that have represented the construction industry through significant acts of community service and charitable contribution. Tom has done this throughout his many years of leadership, time and money in support of Habitat for Humanity and has been a leader and worker with the Collegiate Challenge since its inception. His influence upon the college students who come to town each spring to build homes for the under privileged is insurmountable. Our upcoming events are the annual chili cook-off in September and legislative fish fry in October. If you will, go ahead and mark your calendars for September 15th and October 22nd. Not only will there be the usual delicious food but another time for superb networking and getting to know each other better. I look forward to seeing you in September and tasting the many varieties of chili and cornbread. However, dues payments may be deductible as ordinary and necessary business expense, subject to an exclusion for lobbying activity. Because a portion of your dues for 2015 is used for lobbying by NAHB (11%) and by HBAG (91%), the amounts are not deductible for income tax purposes.
