1 In the Pledge of Fellowship Hello fellow Tampa Bay alumni! Welcome to the inaugural edition of our own Dartmouth Club of Tampa Bay newsletter. We have high hopes this newsletter provides yet another opportunity to connect with our local alumni network, stay abreast of what s happening within our community, and create better awareness of club events. We also hope that this newsletter serves as a friendly reminder that all around us there exists a community of support and camaraderie, which we invite you to actively take advantage of, add to, and extend. In the past year, we ve been working to enhance our communication with an updated Facebook page, a new website structure in the works, four separate get-togethers, and building an expanded network among peers. In this newsletter, we re introducing announcements about family additions, accomplishments, shows of generous support, and just cool facts highlighting the talents and celebrations of our very own. Our goal is to continue to have exciting news to share in all future editions. As we look ahead, we welcome your participation and input, to include but not be limited to: participation in the club, suggestions for events, and news for this publication. We want to hear your news regarding family, personal or professional recognition, events you d like to share anything at all. This is YOUR newsletter, so the more we hear from you, the better it will be. SO on that note.send us your comments, send us your news, and.. (shameless solicitation) send in your dues.and we hope to celebrate with you soon. -Dawn and your officer team It s time to welcome in our new fiscal year. Everything we do as a club - from sponsoring a College Club visit to maintaining a presence in Tampa Bay's high schools - depends on the dues we receive from alumni in Tampa Bay. We ask you to please pay club dues for the new year, and send in your payments by September 30 so we have a working budget for the fiscal year. Dues are nominal: $25 (or $15 for recent graduates). Dues and donations can be paid online or via check. Please also consider contributing to Book Awards or providing additional donations to support our Club activities. The vibrancy of our club, its events, and its participation in the Bay area community are directly tied to your support. In advance, thank you!! Checks should be made out to Dartmouth Club of Tampa Bay and sent to: Barbara Yadley Holland & Knight 100 North Tampa St Suite 4100 Tampa, FL Online Payments: dartmouthcluboftampabay.eventbrite.com Inside this issue: Introduction 1 Fiscal Year Renewal 1 News 2 Book Awards 3 Meet Your Officer Team 3 Keeping in Touch 4 Events 4 Event Photos 5 August 2013 Page 1

2 Many Sighs and Many Cheers Congratulations to the Rojas family on the birth of their beautiful daughter Milla Carina Rojas, born on January 17. Sharing the celebration of Milla s arrival are big sisters Annais and Chantall. Our best wishes to proud parents Mariangelica '99 E'00 and Carlos Andres! And a double congratulations on the family s new home in Tampa we all wish you many many happy years and memories to be made. Be on the lookout for more birth announcements! We have a few more expectant families so stay tuned.. For You We Sing We have a tremendous array of talent among our alumni. Here s some information about two such gems in our midst.. On June 7, alums and their families gathered at the Sail Pavilion at the Tampa Convention Center to enjoy the music of local duo Stumble Fox, featuring guitarist Susan Ettinger Burkhart 96 TH 97. Stumble Fox is a Tampa Bay area female duo, playing a mix of cover music from the 70s through today, focusing on alternative, indie, rock, and pop genres. Don t miss a chance to hear this fantastic team for more information on their upcoming concert dates and venues, visit Fraser Smith 81 is an artist who creates life-sized, super-realistic wood sculptures of things that we tend to keep: old jackets, hats, quilts, and other items that we hold on to, even after they're too worn out to be useful happy or melancholy reminders of good times, or good places in our past that we hold dear. Fraser currently shows his work in galleries in Palm Beach, New York, San Francisco, and LA. He will also be exhibiting his work at ArtPrize, an international art competition, in Grand Rapids, MI from Sept 18-October 6. If you re traveling and in the area, please stop by and see his work! For more on Fraser and his work, visit Send your news to Dawn at dawnmaclaren4@gmail.com or post it to our Facebook page (see page 4 for details)! August 2013 Page 2
