Message from the dean Welcome to spring semester! The days are getting longer and spring break has come and gone. You ll be happy to know that enrollment in the college of education has increased by more than 8% over spring semester From time to time this newsletter will be sent to education students to provide updates regarding events and opportunities within the college. I encourage students to attend our open house in April and to explore all the exciting options available to you. Please take a look at the power point presentation developed by the department of Counseling, Educational and School Psychology featuring the great career opportunities for students who earn an MEd in Educational Psychology. Make plans to attend college of education open house Innovation in teaching methods within the various College of Education programs, as well as the innovative architectural design of Corbin Education Center will be featured at an open house scheduled for Saturday, April 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event begins with refreshments on the upper terrace. At 9:30 a.m. Dean NCATE visit Much work is to be done between now and October 2009 when the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education site team visits WSU. A team of eight to 10 representatives from other universities will meet with faculty, staff and students for this regularly scheduled visit. WSU College of Education has received national accreditation for 54 years. Iorio will welcome guests on the west esplanade and introduce speakers, President Beggs, Provost Miller and our featured speaker, Rob Jones, vice president of campus planning, restoration and development for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Volunteers from a local firm, WDM Architects, will provide guided tours of Corbin Dean Sharon Hartin Iorio Education Center. WDM Executive Vice President Craig Rhodes will present Frank Lloyd Wright and Kansas: Six decades of artistic interaction. Displays demonstrations and activities by students and faculty of various programs will take place concurrently in both Corbin and Heskett Center. All education students and faculty are invited to attend. An Invitation from KNEA - SP Kansas National Education Association-Student Program is an organization for teacher education majors. We look for ways to bring students together and offer personal, one-on-one contact with them. One of our goals is for our students to be involved in community service projects that help us make differences in the lives of the larger community. We also learn to become political activists, learning how to lobby for issues that will affect us, as an organization and our future learning communities.
