1 Board Meeting May 27, 2014 The Scottsboro City Board of Education met in regular session on the above date at 5:00 P.M. at the Page Administration Building. Dr. McCrary, Board President, called the meeting to order. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Autumn Ingram, 8 th grade student, Scottsboro Junior High School and a prayer by Mr. Robbie Copenhaver. All board members were present: Mr. Jerry Coleman, Mr. Robbie Copenhaver, Mr. Daryl Eustace, Dr. Judy McCrary and Mrs. Hollie Thompson. The Board recognized Max Koerbs, Scottsboro High School, for winning finalist by Photographer s Forum Magazine in the 34 th Annual College & High School Photography Contest. The Board recognized Career Tech students, Scottsboro High School, for their outstanding achievements at the Skills USA Conference. The students include Cosmetology - Fanny Guzman, Kim Le, Alena Benson (Pisgah High School), Marie Lambert, Mariela Sebastian, Amanda Stansell, Rosa Zavala and Tech School Logan Lozier and Zach Patton. The Board recognized Engineering Research and Design students, Scottsboro High School, for their outstanding achievements in winning first place in Aerospace Payload Design Project at the 2014 UAH Engineering InSPIRESS Competition. The students are Team 1 Jonathan Bradford, Sara Gamble, Cameron Hawk, Shawn Miller, Kenny Otinger, Zack Swinford, Jackson Vickers and Ryan Woodall and Team 2 Everett Estes, Luke Hastings, Blaine Johnson, Dylon Kubon, Conner McQuire, Colby Muir, Hunter McGaha-Potter, J.D. Reynolds, and Coty Scott. The Board recognized Health Science/HOSA Students, Scottsboro High School, for obtaining Certification as Certified Nurse Assistant with the Alabama Department of Public Health through Scottsboro High School Health Science Internship. The students are Ashley Adams, Emily Fossett, Mary Kate Gentry, Leslie Grajeda, Sommer Green, Dallas Johnson, Hunter Lewis, Tyler Lynch, Courtney Maxwell, Breanna Mitchell, Emily Smith and Michaela Young. The Board recognized individual members of the Track Team, Scottsboro High School, for their outstanding achievements at the AHSAA Class 5-A 2014 State Track Meet. The Board recognized the Career Technical Department, Scottsboro High School, for receiving BIC (Business/Industry Certification) in AgriConstruction, AgriScience and Engineering from the State Department of Education in Business/Industry. The Board recognized the following Teachers of the Year (Individual Schools): Deborah Bailey Brownwood Elementary School, Nancy Lusk Caldwell Elementary School, Kelli Holland Nelson Elementary School, Laura Teal Collins Intermediate School and Shaley Lewis Scottsboro Junior High School. The Board recognized Frances Coleman, Scottsboro High School, for being selected as the Teacher of the Year for Scottsboro City Schools.

2 Board Meeting -2- May 27, 2014 On a motion by Mrs. Thompson and a second by Mr. Coleman, the vote was unanimous to go into Executive Session in regard to a disciplinary manner of a student. On a motion by Mr. Eustace and a second by Mr. Coleman, the vote was unanimous to return from Executive Session. Mr. Steve Kennamer, Board Attorney, certified that pursuant to the open meeting act there was no violation of law and the meeting held in Executive Session was a continuation of a discipline matter for a student. No votes were taken. On a motion by Mr. Copenhaver and a second by Mrs. Thompson, the vote was unanimous to approve the Agenda. The Board received the Financial Statement Audit for 2013 from Mr. Kevin Smith of Dyer & Smith. Consent Agenda On a motion by Mr. Coleman and a second by Mr. Eustace, the vote was unanimous to approve the Consent Agenda. Items on the Consent Agenda are as follows: A. Minutes 1. April 10, 2014, Regular Meeting 2. April 10, 2014, Called Meeting 3. May 6, 2014, Called Meeting B. Out of-state Travel Melinda Adkins Denver, Colorado *July 1-2, 2014 (actual travel dates are July 1-6, 2014; *only two work days are affected) Attend National Education Association Representative Assembly Expenses to be paid by Scottsboro Education Association C. Fund Raisers (filed in Fund Raisers File) with Basketball requests for August, 2014, October 6-31, 2014, and October 28, 2014, being removed from agenda. D. Financial Report & Bank Reconciliation for February, 2014 and March, Delegations Ms. Sheila Cornelison, UniServ Director, addressed the board and requested the vote for the revised policy manual be postponed to the next board meeting. Administrative Reports A. Construction & Renovation Mr. Tony Ball gave an update that the Field House is almost complete, hopefully June 9, This summer the outside of the high school will be painted, replacing carpet and windows. He stated that the funds for this work were budgeted for in capital improvements. B. Testing Mr. Alan Garner gave a report on testing that has just been completed for our school system. He stated due to all the changes, it has been a challenge for all involved. He gave thanks to all the principals and building coordinators for the great job they did with testing.

Mr. Coleman, Mr. Copenhaver, Dr. McCrary, and Mrs. Thompson voted yes. Mr. Eustace abstained. B. Job Description The board received a draft copy of the Job Description for Administrative Assistant for Special Education for approval at the July board meeting. C. Textbook Committee On a motion by Mr. Coleman and a second by Mr. Copenhaver, the vote was unanimous to approve the Textbook Committee for the Social Studies adoption. D. Revised Policy Manual The board received a draft copy of the final revision of the Policy Manual for approval at the July board meeting. Dr. McCrary announced the next regular monthly meeting will be held on June 12, She reminded the board members that the AASB Summer Conference will be June 20-22, 2014.

7 Board Meeting -7- May 27, 2014 Dr. McCrary announced the next regular monthly meeting will be held on June 12, She reminded the board members that the AASB Summer Conference will be June 20-22, Superintendent s Comments Dr. Berry s comments included reporting that the personnel action included 15 employee non-renewals (13 of these were on contract for the school year only) and these will not be released until they are notified, five (5) resignations, four (4) transfers, ten (10) employments and three (3) retirements. This has been a great school year and thanks to everyone for all their hard work. On a motion by Mr. Coleman and a second by Mr. Copenhaver, the vote was unanimous to Adjourn. President Secretary
