1 GADSDEN CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, 2015 AT GADSDEN CITY BOARD CENTRAL OFFICE RECOGNITION OF GUESTS/AWARDS Vice President Nancy Stewart called the meeting to order and recognized Mr. Wardrick Griffin of Quality of Life and the Titan Ambassadors assisting at the meeting and thanked them for all they do. REPORTS Mrs. Felicia Simpson gave a report on the 501c3 account, the Gadsden City Schools Educational Fund. Superintendent Miller noted that ipads are being requested for Striplin and Walnut Park from the customer donations of the Water Board. Striplin Elementary and Walnut Park Elementary were decided upon for the ipad purchase based on the number of handheld devices students had. Dr. David Asbury reported on the One to One Laptop Initiative for the students of Gadsden City High School. The 1600 student devices are in and the cases are expected in any day. The teachers already have their devices and have been receiving training on them. The training will continue throughout the school year. The laptop fee amounts are $50 per student, $35 for students on free and reduced lunches, and $100 maximum for families with multiple children. The laptops will be distributed to students beginning the second week of school. A technician has also been employed for the repair and technical assistance on the laptops. The laptops are equipped with a tracking device and have Wi-Fi and an internet filter. Dr. Asbury also gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Superintendent evaluation, which was completed by 21 administrators and 7 board members recently. The Superintendent furnished the board members with a copy of the Strategic Plan. He noted work began on the Strategic Plan last year and this is the final product. All goals and objectives of the plan were discussed and the Strategic Plan will be recommended for approval later in the meeting. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Board convened in executive session to review matters relating to the reputation, character, and professional competence of certain individuals and pending legal matters. Board action followed the executive session.
