Fee: $45 each There currently are more than 115,000 people in the United States awaiting a life-saving organ transplant and more than 5,000 in New Jersey alone. Organ and tissue donation has saved and enhanced the lives of thousands of people in the United States for over 50 years and yet a large gap exists between those eligible to donate and those who do become donors. The goal of this programs is to assist New Jersey attorneys and physicians in understanding the legal and medical challenges associated with organ donations. The program will provide an overview of the organ donation process and the state s laws and will discuss challenges faced by families, providers and attorneys throughout the process. OBJECTIVES: 1. Identifies two reasons for this session 2. Describes the roles and responsibilities of the Organ Procurement Organization 3. Explains the notification and authorization process for organ and tissue donation: panel and case studies. TARGET AUDIENCE: Physicians and attorneys

2 CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS: Accreditation Statement: HRET is accredited by MSNJ to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AMA Credit Designation Statement: HRET designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Continuing Legal Education: This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 2.0 hours of total CLE credit. Of these, 0 qualify as hours of credit for ethics/professionalism, and 0 qualify as hours of credit toward certification in civil trial law, criminal trial law, workers compensation law and/or matrimonial law.
