2 Welcome Railport system to the PORT OF GOTHENBURG and THE RAILPORT SCANDINAVIA Welcome to Railport Scandinavia a highly efficient railway network who connect inland terminals throughout Sweden and Norway with the Port of Gothenburg. A cost efficient and sustainable transport solution with connecting traffic to the rest of the world. RAILPORT INTERMODAL SYSTEM The Port of Gothenburg has the best conditions in Sweden for rail traffic and a highly efficient on-dock rail terminal. Sweden s most important consumption and production centres are served every day by 24 daily intermodal rail shuttles and more are on the way. RAILPORT CONVENTIONAL SYSTEM In addition to railport intermodal system, customer adapted train systems contribute further both to improved service and reduced environmental impact. Customer adapted whole train systems arriving to the Port of Gothenburg are an important cog in our vision of efficient, sustainable transports. Steel, paper or sawn timber etc there are many good examples and each solution is entirely tailored to our customers needs. RAILPORT TERMINAL Intermodal terminals connected to the Port of Gothenburg. The terminals offer a wide range of services, for example customs, storage and empty depot. NORTH AMERICA/ EUROPE The whole world in a port Each week we have direct services to Asia, India, North Africa, North America and other regions. Each day you can choose between several roro, container and break-bulk services to markets such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France and other parts of Europe. Thanks 2 RAILPORT SCANDINAVIA to the frequent transport to other major freight hubs throughout Europe, all the ports of the world are linked to Gothenburg. There are more than 80 roro departures from the Port of Gothenburg and approximately 20 departures by container vessels every week. 3 RAILPORT INTERMODAL SYSTEM Our rail shuttle system is based on well-developed co-operation between the Port of Gothenburg, the Railport terminals, several rail operators, shippers and the Swedish Rail Administration. This cooperation means that we can link together the logistics of sea and land efficiently and environmentally friendly. Railport Intermodal System is and open train system for all customers. 4 Railport Intermodal System VOLUME DEVELOPMENT The railway is for our customers an increasingly important link in the transport chain. Since 2002 alone, rail transports to and from the Port of Gothenburg have increased from 6 to 24 daily shuttles. About half of the container transports now go to and from the port by rail*. *Note: Total Volume Port of Gothenburg TEU RAIL VOLUMES SHARE OF QUAY TURNOVER 60% 50% 2014: TEU 40% 30% 20% 2000: TEU 10% 0% REDUCED ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT Moving goods from lorries to trains has significant environmental benefits. Each year, the railport intermodal system shuttles save tons of carbon dioxide emissions. That would equal the emissions from passenger cars during one year. See reduced environmental impact per destination on page 5. 5 RAILPORT TERMINAL The terminals serviced by the rail shuttles stretch from Sundsvall in the north to Helsingborg in the south, and there are also shuttles to Oslo in Norway. The railport terminals offer a wide range of services including the availability of facilities for cleaning and inspection of containers, customs, the availability of refrigerated container connections, the provision of bonded warehouse requirements, ability to handle hazardous cargo, availability of a depot for empty containers, and ISO classification. RAILPORT TERMINAL RATING In order to provide a clear overview of the services that each terminal can offer, the Port of Gothenburg is currently classifying the various terminals. The quality of the operations in the terminals is measured and evaluated with a five-point scale rating system. The rating is based on four parameters: conditions and geographical location, range of services, safety and security and physical layout. VERY GOOD The rating system gives a picture of the overall quality standard of each terminal. The long-term aim is ensure that all terminals provide the same high level as the Port of Gothenburg.
