Make sure that yu have adequate hardware capabilities fr the systems that will hst the eg manager and agents. Step 3 Install JDK n the eg manager system On the system where yu will be installing the eg manager, please install JDK 1.6.0_10 (r abve) fr yur OS platfrm. The JDK fr Windws is pre-bundled int the eg manager installable fr Windws platfrms. Fr Unix platfrms, yu may have t dwnlad the JDK. T dwnlad JDK 1.7 fr instance, use the fllwing URL: http://www.racle.cm/technetwrk/java/archive- 139210.html. Ding s brings up an Oracle Java Archive page. Scrll dwn the page t lcate the Java SE sectin. Then, click n the Java SE 7 link in this sectin. A Java SE 7 Dwnlads page will then appear. Scrll dwn the page and click n the Java SE Develpment Kit 7u65. Ding s will prmpt yu t accept a license agreement; select the Accept License Agreement ptin t accept it. Then, a list f JDK Dwnlads per perating system will appear. Click n the JDK dwnlad that crrespnds t the perating system f yur chice. Yu will then be asked t lgin t yur Oracle Web accunt and prceed with the dwnlad. Step 4 Ensure that a database server is available An Oracle database (versin 10G / 11G / 12c) / Micrsft SQL Server (versin 2008 / 2012 / 2014) is required t hst the eg database. When installing the eg manager, specify the lcatin f the database server. If yu want t use Oracle Database: Fr the evaluatin perid, yu can dwnlad a 90-day trial versin f the Oracle database server frm Oracle's Technlgy Netwrk hmepage. As per Oracle s licensing plicy, yu will need t an Oracle Web accunt t btain the evaluatin versin. The link frm where yu need t dwnlad the Oracle evaluatin versin: http://www.racle.cm/technetwrk/indexes/dwnlads/index.html Scrll dwn the list f Oracle Sftware Dwnlads displayed therein t lcate the Database sectin. Click n the Database 12c Enterprise/Standard Editins link in this sectin t dwnlad it. Next, in the Oracle Database Sftware Dwnlads page that then appears, Accept the license agreement and scrll dwn the Oracle Database 12c Release 1 Enterprise Editin sectin. Click n any link in that sectin that crrespnds t the perating system n which the Oracle database server is t be installed. If yu want t use MS SQL Database: Fr the evaluatin perid, yu can dwnlad a 180-days trial versin f MS SQL Server 2014 frm the fllwing link: http://www.micrsft.cm/sqlserver/en/us/get-sql-server/try-it.aspx. While installing the SQL server, ensure that the installatin f the server is perfrmed in the case-insensitive mde. Please ensure that the database server has a tablespace with at least 100MB f space fr hsting the eg database. Fr evaluatin purpses, yu have the ptin f using MS SQL Server 2005/2008/2012 Express as the backend fr a Windws 2008/Windws 7/Windws 8/Windws 2012 manager. The eg manager setup itself allws yu t install and use MS SQL Server 2005/2008/2012 Express. Hwever, befre cmmencing manager installatin, the MS SQL Server 2005/2008/2012 Express installable must be available in the eg manager hst. T ensure this, prir t installing the eg manager using the MS SQL Server 2012 Express fr instance, dwnlad its free installable frm the URL, http://www.micrsft.cm/en-in/dwnlad/details.aspx?id=29062, t any lcatin n the eg manager hst. Then, g t the cmmand prmpt, switch t the dwnlad directry, and issue the cmmand <ExecutableName>/x t extract the installatin-related files frm the executable. When prmpted fr the directry t which the files are t be extracted, specify a directry n yur lcal hst and click the OK
buttn therein t prceed with the extractin. All the necessary files will then be extracted frm the executable int the specified directry. Yu als have the ptin f using an existing Micrsft Azure SQL Database (if any) as the eg backend. Step 5 Install and Cnfigure the eg Manager Nw, prceed t install the eg manager and cnfigure it t use either an Oracle / MS SQL database. Please refer t the eg Installatin Guide fr detailed installatin and cnfiguratin instructins. Nte: The eg manager can be installed n a Slaris/Linux hst frm a super-user accunt nly. The eg manager can be installed n a Windws hst frm a lcal/dmain administratr accunt nly. If installing n a Windws system, please rebt the server after the installatin. Step 6 Deply the license fr the eg Manager The trial license that will be prvided t yu shuld be saved in the eg manager s bin directry. Fr Windws, if yur eg installatin directry is C:\Prgram Files\eGurkha, the license shuld be saved in a file named C:\Prgram Files\eGurkha\bin\license. Fr Linux and Slaris, if yur eg installatin lcatin is /pt/egurkha/, the license shuld be saved in a file named /pt/egurkha/bin/license. Nte: If yu d nt save the license in the crrect place, under the crrect name, the eg manager will nt start.
Step 7 Install and Cnfigure the eg Agent Fr the agent installatin and cnfiguratin prcedure, refer t the eg Installatin Guide. Nte: Agent installatin des nt require a rebt f the system. The eg agent can be installed n Unix hsts frm a super-user accunt nly. The eg agent can be installed n a Windws hst frm a lcal/dmain administratr accunt nly. Step 8 Start the eg Manager T start the eg manager n Linux/Slaris, execute the cmmand /pt/egurkha/bin/start_manager T start the eg manager n Windws, fllw the menu sequence: Start -> eg Mnitring Suite -> eg Manager -> Start Manager. Step 9 Administer the eg Enterprise Suite After starting the eg manager, cnnect t the eg management cnsle using the URL: http://<egmanagerip>:<egmanagerprt>/, r https://<egmanagerip>:<egmanagerprt>/ (if yu have SSLenabled the eg manager during installatin). T administer the eg Enterprise suite, lgin t the eg manager as the user admin with passwrd admin. Please refer t the User Manual t determine hw t administer and use the eg Enterprise suite f prducts. Nte: T administer the eg Enterprise system, yu will require Internet Explrer 10 r higher r Mzilla Firefx Versin 25 r higher r Chrme.
Step 10 Start the eg Agent T start the eg agent n Unix hsts, lgin t the hst as the eg user, and run the cmmand /pt/egurkha/bin/start_agent T start the eg agent n Windws hsts, fllw the menu sequence: Start -> eg Mnitring Suite -> eg Agent -> Start Agent.
Pre-requisites fr eg Manager/Agent Installatin and Cnfiguratin: Befre setting ut t manage yur envirnment using eg Enterprise, yu need t make sure that certain pre-requisites are fulfilled. Typically, these requirements may differ accrding t the cmpsitin f yur target infrastructure i.e., accrding t the number and type f applicatins t be mnitred in yur envirnment. Fr a detailed list f pre-requisites, refer t the eg Installatin Guide r the applicatinspecific sectins f the eg Implementer s Guide. Given belw are sme f the key pre-requisites fr mnitring using eg Enterprise: The eg manager shuld be adequately sized t handle the current and anticipated mnitring lad f yur envirnment. While detailed sizing guidelines are available in the Sizing the Hardware and Database required by an eg Manager dcument, its best t remember that the lad is a key determinant f nt just the eg manager size, but als its lcatin. Fr instance, if the eg manager is expected t manage nly a few agents, yu can deply the manager even n a VM executing n a virtual hst. Fr large deplyments f the eg manager hwever, it wuld be gd practice either allt a dedicated server fr this purpse, r allcate sufficient resurces t the VM that will be hsting the eg manager. If yu intend t mnitr ne/mre applicatins in an agentless manner i.e., using a remte agent then the fllwing rules apply: If a Windws hst r a Windws-based applicatin is t be mnitred in an agentless manner, then make sure that the ADMIN$ share is enabled n the target hst. The remte agent used fr mnitring Windws hsts / Windws-based applicatins shuld run using the dmain administratr privileges. Bth the afresaid rules als apply while mnitring Windws VMs in an agentless manner. Fr a cmplete list f pre-requisites pertaining t VMware envirnments, please refer t the Mnitring VMware Infrastructures dcument. The eg agent mnitring sme specific applicatins may require special privileges fr executin; the tests executed by these agents may hence need t be cnfigured with the credentials f a user wh is vested with the required privileges. A few examples have been cited belw: \ T mnitr an MS SQL server 2000/7, the tests require Sysadmin privileges. T mnitr an MS SQL server 2005/2008/2012/2014, the tests require CONNECT SQL, VIEW ANY DATABASE, and VIEW SERVER STATE privileges. T mnitr an Oracle database server, yu will need t cnfigure the tests with the credentials f a user with select_catalg_rle and cnnect privileges. Tests that reprt the perfrmance f netwrk devices will have t be cnfigured with an SNMP cmmunity string.
