4 Intrductin The DET Database Hsting Service prvides custmers with the framewrk fr running Micrsft SQL Server and Oracle databases at the DET Data Center in a secure envirnment. DET manages all server envirnments and is respnsible fr the acquisitin, installatin, cnfiguratin, administratin, and maintenance f the server platfrms and perating system sftware installed n these servers. This service is available n bth physical and virtual server platfrms. Micrsft SQL Server databases can be deplyed n bth physical and virtual servers. Oracle databases must run n physical servers. All the technlgies and sftware versins used t prvide this service can be fund within the Technical Reference Mdel (TRM). Please refer t the TRM t determine which technlgies are strategic, emerging, transitinal, r sunset fr this service ffering. What Is Included DET managed server(s) envirnment. Server purchasing Operating System (OS) installatin Firewall services Netwrking services Backup and recvery f server files Backup and Restre Service Offering Standard mnitring is prvided fr all servers Database sftware licensing within the DET managed Oracle instance envirnment. Supprt fr Agency Managed Physical Servers (AMPS), and Agency Managed Virtual Servers (AMVS) Applicatin recvery Benefits DET prvides the infrastructure s that agency staff can fcus n business needs and applicatin cde. The database envirnment shares the cst f the envirnment acrss all users minimizing licensing csts, physical infrastructure csts, and supprt persnnel csts. DET ensures that the database servers are supprted by several different individuals, insuring cverage and cntinuity. DET analyzes and crdinates all infrastructure envirnment changes fr their impact n agency applicatins. DET prvides a secure physical envirnment t ensure restricted access t agency servers. 6 Service Descriptin The DET Database Hsting Service includes the hardware, sftware and running databases in a secure envirnment at the DET Data Center. Cnfiguratin f new, r access t existing services includes the fllwing by prduct which can be made by request. Oracle Dedicated stand alne database server Dedicated instances, which wuld be prvided in a clustering sftware installatin fr Oracle with active-active clustering, allwing fr cld failver t ther servers in the cluster. Access t Oracle Enterprise Manager-Grid Cntrl Recvery frm Oracle Recvery Manager (RMAN) managed backups and recvery f Oracle data. Access t required Oracle database alert lgs and traces, and agency reserved strage n the Oracle database servers thrugh standalne gateway servers with Netwrk File System (NFS) munts. SQL Server Dedicated stand alne database server Dedicated VMware database server, which wuld be prvided n a virtual cluster, allwing fr failver t ther servers in the cluster. Recvery frm SQL Server Management Studi (SSMS) managed database backups in simple recver mde by default, r pint in time recvery ptins by request. DET retains full cntrl and respnsibility fr the acquisitin, installatin, cnfiguratin, administratin, maintenance, and management f the server platfrm and perating system sftware. DET fllws established Service Request and Change Management prcedures fr the resurces that DET cntrls (e.g. Servers, Operating Systems, Security patches, Mnitring, etc). Agency DET Database Hsting Service implementatins must fllw the established Service Request and Change Management prcedures. The Service Tier defines the DET level f service fr availability, supprt, maintenance and recvery f the server. Service Offering Review Plicy This agreement will autmatically renew each fiscal year until either party prvides ntice f terminatin. Service Offering Definitins are reviewed annually. 7 Business Cntinuity Business Cntinuity fr the database hsting service is the respnsibility f the requesting agency. Mnitring Standard mnitring includes alerting and reprting t DET supprt staff f CPU, memry, file system utilizatin, netwrk I/O and up/dwn status f the servers. In additin, mnitring and alerting are prvided in the Oracle envirnment thrugh Oracle s Enterprise Manager-Grid Cntrl t which agency Applicatin DBAS have full access t the databases that belng t their agency. Hw Services Are Charged In additin t Database Hsting Service, the agency may als be required t subscribe t LAN, Strage, Backup & Restre, Directry and Enterprise Service Desk service fferings. Oracle is charged based n either a dedicated server r n a dedicated instance. SQL is charged n a dedicated server, either physical r virtual. Services are billed n a mnthly basis thrugh the Enterprise Billing System (EBS). Please see the IT Services Rate Sheet fr rate infrmatin. Cst-Saving Tips Oracle: Vendr applicatins tend t have r require their wn databases. On the surface this wuld result in charges fr each database if hused in their wn instance. Hwever many small applicatins can be cmbined in ne database instance saving additinal instance charges (An applicatin database wuld be wned by a particular user/schema in an instance which wuld share memry.)
