UNILEAD 2016 DIES University Leadership and Management Training Prgramme The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Department f Cntinuing Educatin and Educatin Management at the Carl vn Ossietzky University f Oldenburg in Germany are jintly rganising the DIES University Leadership and Management Training Prgramme UNILEAD in Oldenburg, enabling yung management-level prfessinals at higher educatin institutins in develping cuntries t tackle successfully every-day challenges. In rder t d s, the prgramme brings tgether the tpics Prject Management, Financing and Investment and Management f Human Resurces with individual and practice-riented change prjects f each participant. In 2008, the University f Oldenburg develped the prgramme tgether with the Nelsn Mandela Metrplitan University (Suth Africa) and the DAAD. UNILEAD is part f the DIES prgramme (Dialgue n Innvative Higher Educatin Strategies), which has been jintly crdinated by the DAAD and HRK (German Rectrs Cnference) since 2001. Prgramme Cntents and Methdlgy UNILEAD fcuses n three key areas: 1. Prject Management (PM). This includes curses n Strategic Management in Prjects, Methdlgy f Prject Management and Risk Management 2. Financing and Investment (F&I). This includes general financing strategies, perating with financial plans, cntrl f slvency as well as the knwledge f and use f investment tls and cncepts. 3. Management f Human Resurces (HRM). This includes curses n Instruments f Human Resurce Develpment, Leadership, Cnflict Management and Cmmunicatin In rder t cmplement these three mdules, additinal tpics, such as Prject Peple Dynamics, Quality Management, and Leadership, are tuched upn. At the heart f the entire prgramme is an individual and practice-riented change prject that participants are required t prpse in their applicatin. Curse cntent will always reflect n and relate t these change prjects. The methdlgy will be strictly prject rientated and is based n case studies r questins derived frm the particular jb situatin f the participants. Thus, it is expected t bring in persnal experience and t share this knwledge with the grup f arund 25 participants frm different regins f the wrld. High persnal mtivatin, the willingness t get actively invlved during the nline and cntact phases and English language skills n an advanced level are essential fr the successful cmpletin f this curse. additinal tpics PM Individual Change Prject F&I HRM Page 2
Learning Apprach / Schedule Using a blended learning apprach, UNILEAD is structured in tw n-site cntact phases at the University f Oldenburg, Germany, and tw trainer guided nline phases. Online Phase 1 (01/2016 03/2016) Prir t the first cntact phase, an nline phase f 8-10 weeks is scheduled in which the participants are asked t read the study material and t wrk n shrt papers, including the individual wrk f drafting the individual change prjects. These papers are meant t describe the individual wrk experience at the hme institutin and t identify prblems as well as bstacles referring t the tpics f the curse. Presence Phase 1 (28th February 18th March 2016) The initial cntact phase will take place at the University f Oldenburg in Germany. During these three weeks, cntent will fcus n Prject Management and Financing and Investment. Furthermre, the persnal actin plans will be adjusted and fine-tuned. Online Phase 2 & Implementatin (03/2016 09/2016) Between March 2016 and September 2016, participants apply the skills acquired at UNILEAD within their individual prjects at their hme universities. In this, they are being accmpanied and mnitred by UNILEAD distance-caches. Presence Phase 2 (4th 16th September 2016) Finally, during a tw-week cntact phase f the last mdule in Oldenburg, there will be the pprtunity t reflect n the implementatin f the individual prjects and t discuss next steps. Cntent f inputs will fcus n Management f Human Resurces. As the mdules f the prgramme are intercnnected, participants are expected t take part in all three mdules. A written statement which cnfirms the cmmitment t attend all parts f the prgramme is an entry requirement fr being admitted. Partners Prfile The University f Oldenburg is the academic crdinatr f this prgramme and wrks clsely tgether with the DAAD. The University f Oldenburg has been ffering an innvative MBA prgramme in Educatin and Research Management fr prfessinals f (Higher) Educatin Institutins fr several years. Thus, it has a wide netwrk f experts wh act as lecturers in this MBA prgramme and prvides in-depth experience in the field f Cntinuing Educatin and Educatin Management as well as training f prfessinals at an academic level. Natinal and internatinal lecturers will bring in expertise in Higher Educatin Management and will help reflecting the specific questins frm an internatinal and intercultural perspective. Page 3
Participants Prfile UNILEAD is targeting higher educatin managers frm develping cuntries. The tw key criteria are: Applicants have been hlding a university management psitin with managerial and persnnel respnsibilities fr at least tw years in ne f the fllwing fields: Managers f central university departments (Planning, Quality Management, Human Resurces, Cntinuing Educatin, Internatinal Offices, etc.). Task frce managers fr university refrm prjects. Managers f staff develpment units r prgrammes. Active and excellent English language skills (speaking and writing) are indispensable. Further criteria are: Applicants are yung university leaders aged between 30 and 40 years. Applicants hld at least a Master s degree. The prvisin f internatinal experience will be an asset. Participants frm higher educatin institutins f the fllwing cuntries are eligible t apply: Suth East Asia (Cambdia, Indnesia, Las, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam). Sub-Saharan Africa (Burundi, Camern, Ethipia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Suth Africa, Suth Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda). Central and Latin America (Belize, Blivia, Chile, Csta Rica, Clmbia, Dminican Republic, Ecuadr, El Salvadr, Guatemala, Hnduras, Mexic, Nicaragua, Panama, and Peru). Middle East (Egypt, Iraq, Jrdan, and Yemen). Funding The csts fr the UNILEAD prgramme will be mainly cvered by funds f the DAAD prvided by the German Federal Ministry fr Ecnmic Cperatin and Develpment (BMZ). During the presence phases the participants will be guests f the University f Oldenburg. Fllwing expenses will be cvered: Travel csts: Flight t and frm Germany and grund travel t and frm Oldenburg. We kindly ask the participants t make their wn travel arrangement they will then be reimbursed in cash upn arrival in Oldenburg. Curse csts: 5.500. Accmmdatin and jint meals at the tw cntact phases in Germany. Partial allwance fr subsistence csts during the cntact phases in Germany (accrding t DAAD regulatins). Emergency health insurance during the cntact phases. Expected c-funding: Participants hme institutins are expected t cver lcal transprtatin in their hme cuntries, visa csts and pssible additinal per diems fr the stay in Germany.
