Mount St. Joseph Girls College Systems Administrator / Service Desk Level 1 and 2 Position Description Role Purpose: The Systems Administrator / Service Desk position is responsible for the day to day administration and maintenance of a robust ICT network, core systems and service desk. Position Context The Systems Administrator / Service Desk is at all times directly responsible to the Network Manager and the Principal for the effective performance of her or his duties. The incumbent is required to work within the IT Services Team and is expected to support the ethos, mission statement, aims, policies and procedures of Mount St Joseph Girls College. Responsibilities Duties IT Management Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT servers including associated hardware, software, and peripherals Manage the IT service desk including hardware and software support for students and staff Perform backups on servers, tape swaps and ensure data is protected with regular backup routines with scheduled recover from backup routinely practiced Maintenance Work with and develop asset management processes and policies for IT hardware, software, and equipment 1
Use the IT Support Request system to document, prioritize and track Help Desk and maintenance requests Maintain functionality of network applications and communications systems - these currently include the wireless platform (Xirrus), the Human Edge suite of school software applications including the student management systems (SAS and A+ Attendance), reporting application (Reporter Pro), timetabling application (First Class), Google Applications (Email) and Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM). N.B. These software applications are subject to change as the needs of the College change. Maintain student and staff profiles (currently using Casper and Watchguard) Ensure that system security is adequate and maintain adequate virus protection for the network and all users Maintain, backup and document CISCO switches Planning and Policy Maintain and implement IT policies, procedures and best practices Work with the IT Manager to implement business and system requirements for new technology implementations Liaise with and supervise third party contractors Technical Manage and administer Active Directory (AD) Ensure that the school management system (SAS) is supported Ensure access only by authorised users and maintain suitable user rights and system security Other Duties Attend department, staff and general meetings Document network settings and configurations including address settings, passwords and key contacts 2
Interpersonal Establish good working relationships and communicate effectively with both students, team members and other staff Liaise and problem solve with staff, students and outside suppliers and service providers Other IT related duties as requested by the ICT Manager and the Principal Experience, skills and attributes Willingness to embrace Catholic Education and support the College s philosophy, mission and goals A minimum of two years relevant experience including: Computer network and hardware experience Experience with Microsoft and bespoke applications Experience in running DPM, HyperV cluster, SCCM, SQL, Windows System administration, Cisco switches administration, Xirrus transmitter administration, Windows LAN and WAN technologies Experience in running Service desk support level 1 and 2 Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment Proven problem-solving abilities and attention to detail Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills Experience with Apple Mac servers and supporting Apple Mac The following would be well regarded: Experience in maintaining a school ERP system Troubleshooting platforms and software packages Technical proficiency to support MS desktop and Apple environment An understanding of the organization s goals and objectives 3
Qualifications Tertiary qualified Current industry certifications in Microsoft technologies Certifications in Apple and Cisco technologies are desirable Terms and Conditions Full time position with four weeks annual leave Staff employment conditions are in accordance with the current Catholic Education Multi Enterprise Agreement 2013 (School Officer, Category A). Starting and finishing hours are negotiable within the range from 8am to 5pm Remuneration is negotiable and dependent upon experience within the range of $70,000 FTE to $79,000 FTE Professional development to be undertaken on a regular basis The incumbent may be required to work some out of hours work in line with the duties of the position and with agreed remuneration or time in lieu.
