1 Network Systems Pathway Information Technology Cluster Assistant Network Technician -- This major prepares students to install, configure, operate, and connections to remote sites in a wide area network (WAN). Students will perform desktop client administration and maintenance and provide support for users in various work environments, including professional offices, small businesses, work groups, departments, and/or corporate information services (IS). Students are introduced to wireless networking concepts and security prevention measures. Cisco Network Associate -- Students in this career major will master enterprise level network design and operation, monitor and optimize networks for maximum performance, and specialize in advanced networking skills like security, data center and voice. The CCNA R&S certification validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium size routed and switched networks. CCNA certified professionals have the knowledge and skills to make connections to remote sites via a WAN, and mitigate basic security threats. CCNA R&S training covers (but is not limited to) the use of these topics: IOS, IPv6, IPv4, OSPF, Cisco Licensing, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Serial Line Interfaces, Frame Relay interfaces VLANs, Ethernet, VLSM, and basic traffic filtering. Cisco Network Technician -- Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) validates the ability to install, operate and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security. With a CCENT, a network professional demonstrates the skills required for entry-level network support positions - the starting point for many successful careers in networking. The curriculum covers networking fundamentals, WAN technologies, basic security and wireless concepts, routing and switching fundamentals, and configuring simple networks. CCENT is the first step toward achieving CCNA, which covers medium-size enterprise branch networks with more complex connections. Computer Security Specialist -- This major prepares students to provide security for electronic commerce transactions by applying the principles of risk management to secure architectures, incident handling, disaster recovery and secure systems administration. Students are introduced to basic security principles involving network communications, including current threats and vulnerabilities, as they perform operations to secure networks and operating systems. Students gain skills required for certifications in Security Certified Network Specialist (SCNS), Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP), Security Certified Network Architect (SCNA), CompTIA, and Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Cyber Security Compliance Specialist -- This major prepares students to plan, conduct and report on information technology audits, which are used primarily to evaluate an organization's ability to protect its information assets and properly dispense information to authorized parties. Students are introduced to basic security principles involving networks and operating systems, including the current threats, vulnerabilities and policies of electronic commerce. They gain an understanding of the principles of risk management, security architectures, incident handling, disaster recovery and secure systems administration. Students study typical aspects of information technology audits and apply their knowledge to manage the risk of security attacks and implement appropriate compliance policies and strategies. Students gain skills required for certifications in Security Certified Network Specialist (SCNP), Security Certified Cyber Security Forensics Specialist-- This major prepares students to track and patch security holes after an incident has occurred. Cyber forensic procedures may include seizure of equipment, analysis of confiscated materials and follow-up procedures relating to the incident. Students are introduced to basic
2 security principles involving networks and operating systems, including the current threats, vulnerabilities and policies of electronic commerce. They gain an understanding of the principles of risk management, gain skills required for certifications in Security Certified Network Specialist (SCNS), Security Certified Cyber Security Professional (Networking Emphasis) -- This major prepares students to plan, coordinate and implement security measures for networking systems. Students first learn the basics of repair and maintenance of computer hardware, software and operating systems along with the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of network hardware. Then they are introduced to basic security principles involving networks and operating systems, including the current threats, vulnerabilities and policies of electronic commerce. They gain an understanding of the principles of risk management, track and patch security holes after a breach of security has occurred. Students gain skills required for certifications offered by Microsoft, CIW, CompTIA, Novell, and Cisco, along with additional security certifications for Security Certified Network Specialist (SCNP), Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP), and Security Certified Network Architect (SCNA). Cyber Security Specialist (Networking Emphasis) -- This major prepares students to plan, coordinate and implement enterprise networks and security measures for networking systems. Students will learn the basics of computer workstation repair and maintenance as well as operating system and software support. The student will then be introduced to basic security principles as well as risk assessment and management, security architectures, incident handling, disaster recovery and secure systems administration. Students gain skills required for CompTIA A+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft and Novell certifications as well as CNSS certificates 4011, 4012, 4013, and Enterprise Network Associate-- This major prepares students to install, configure, operate, and connections to remote sites in a wide area network (WAN). Students are introduced to wireless networking concepts and security prevention measures. Students in this major gain the technical skills required for Cisco Certified Network Associate, Cisco Certified Entry Level Technician, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and/or Microsoft Certified Professional industry certifications. Enterprise Network Associate (Security Emphasis) -- In addition to the skills learned as an Enterprise Network Associate, this major prepares students to implement security measures for network systems. Students learn to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a wide area network (WAN). Students are introduced to wireless networking concepts and security prevention measures. Students in this major gain the technical skills required for Cisco Certified Network Associate, Cisco Certified Entry Level Technician, Cisco Security Certification, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and/or Microsoft Certified Professional industry certifications. Enterprise Network Professional This major prepares students to install, configure, and troubleshoot converged local and wide area networks. Students will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to manage the routers and switches that form the network core, as well as integrate voice, wireless, and security into the network. Students in this major gain the technical skills required for Cisco Certified Network Professional or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certification. Home Technology Integrator-- This major prepares students to configure, integrate, maintain and troubleshoot the basic design concepts of electronic and digital home systems. Students first learn to repair, service and troubleshoot personal computers and computer-related equipment and to install and configure operating systems and application software. They also learn to install, configure and troubleshoot network hardware peripherals and protocols. In the specialty area of home systems,
3 students learn the principles of analog and digital audio and video distribution and presentation. They are introduced to the principles of residential and commercial wiring devices, methods and distribution systems along with the principles of irrigation, fire and security alarm, remote and automated lighting and power systems, and environmental controls. Students in this major gain the technical skills required for CompTIA A+, Network+, DHTI+, Microsoft, and Cisco certifications. Information Storage and Management Technician-- To keep pace with the exponential growth of information and the associated increase in the sophistication and complexity of information management technology, there is a growing demand for skilled information management professionals. These professionals will be called upon to provide a variety of solutions for storing, managing, networking, accessing, protecting, securing, sharing, and optimizing information. The training offered in this career major covers the concepts, principles, and deployment considerations that are used across a variety of existent and emerging technologies for storing and managing information. LAN/WAN Specialist-- Students in this career major will develop a broad range of skills that will enable them to seek employment as both Local and Wide Area Network Specialists. Skills learned will include planning, analysis, design, development, implementation, configuration, modification, installation, integration, security, maintenance testing and management of networked systems for the transmission of voice, data and video. Successful completion of the major will prepare students for both Cisco and Microsoft certifications. Microsoft Windows Server Administrator-- This Career Major provides a track to employment specifically using Microsoft Academy curriculum. It is designed primarily for individuals who already possess strong IT skills and who wish to obtain high level MS certifications in a shorter period of time. Network Security Compliance Technician-- A graduate of this major learns to maintain, analyze, troubleshoot, and repair computer systems, hardware and computer peripherals. Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems. Graduate assists in implementing custom configurations of computer systems. The graduate also learns to install, configure, and maintain the network. Builds networks and maintains external and internal web presence, and administers the network. Designs and supports server systems and supporting software. Evaluates changes to current and future network requirements to meet needs. Also, the graduate learns to install, configure, and maintain the security systems of the workstations, servers, peripherals, and the network. Documents, maintains, and upgrades the security devices and applications of the network as needed. A graduate will analyze, compile, verify and document regulatory compliance of company and governmental policy. The graduate will also learn to perform and document auditing, i.e. penetration testing, techniques on computer systems to ensure that they are secure and are compliant with current regulations. Network Security Professional (Networking Emphasis) -- This major prepares students to plan, coordinate and implement security measures for networking systems. Students first learn the basics of repair and maintenance of computer hardware, software and operating systems along with the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of network hardware. Then they are introduced to basic security principles involving networks and operating systems, including the current threats and vulnerabilities of the cyber landscape. They gain an understanding of the principles of risk management, gain skills required for certifications offered by Microsoft, CIW, CompTIA, Novell, and Cisco, along with additional security certifications for Security Certified Network Specialist (SCNP), Security Certified Network Security Professional (Systems Emphasis) -- This major prepares students to plan, coordinate and implement security measures for computer systems. Students first learn network and routing fundamentals and a variety of network support skills including installation, configuration, maintenance and administration duties as well as support to network users. Students are then introduced

Students will learn to troubleshoot and repair computer systems and peripherals; install, configure, and maintain networks; build, maintain, and administer networks; design and support server systems; install, configure, and maintain security systems; maintain and upgrade security devices and applications for the network; and analyze digital evidence for corporate and law enforcement cases. Students will gain skills required for various industry certifications, including Cisco, CompTIA, Brainbench, ODCTE, and numerous security certifications. Network Server Administrator-- Students in this major learn to plan, install, configure, troubleshoot and upgrade network hardware, network protocols, and to keep a company's network running efficiently. In addition, students learn to install, configure, maintain and manage a server environment. Students perform desktop maintenance and provide support for users in various network environments. Students in this major gain the technical skills required for CompTia A+ and Network+ as well as Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician, and Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Server Administrator. Network Systems and Data Communications Analyst-- This career major combines several of the beginning level courses into a solid foundation, allowing students the ability to succeed and pursue an associate s degree at a higher education institution. This major prepares students to repair, service and troubleshoot personal computers and computer-related equipment and to install and configure operating systems and application software. Students will learn the basics of networking, including installation, configuration and troubleshooting of hardware peripherals and protocols, as well as network administration duties and providing support for network users. Students will also learn various Web authoring languages, scripting languages and security awareness. Network Systems Engineer-- This major prepares students to plan, install, configure, troubleshoot, upgrade and support an organization s local area network (LAN) and/or wide area network (WAN). Students learn the basics of network and server installation and configuration along with administrative duties and support for network users in various work environments. Students solve advanced companywide support problems and high-level network and security problems. Students develop skills to plan, design, implement and troubleshoot a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory service and/or network infrastructure. Training could also include various Linux and Unix network operating systems. Students gain the technical skills required for Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, as well as CompTIA, Cisco, and/or Novell industry certifications. Network Systems Specialist-- This major prepares students to install, configure and support an organization s local area network, wide area network, and/or Internet system. Students learn basic and advanced problem-solving skills in computer installation, evaluation, troubleshooting and upgrades of computer hardware, software and operating systems along with the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of network hardware. They learn switching basics, intermediate routing and WAN technologies and are introduced to basic security principles involving networks and operating systems. Students gain skills required for certifications offered by Microsoft, CompTIA and Cisco. Network Systems Technician-- Students in this major learn to plan, install, configure, troubleshoot and upgrade network hardware peripherals and protocols and to keep a company s network running efficiently.
