Origins of the festival The festival is due to the generosity of Annie and Frank Maskew, a Rochdale couple who shared a passion for reading and thinking, who originally met in Rochdale Library in the 1950s. They left a sum of money to be used on resources and events related to literature and philosophy to ensure classic works are available for future generations. Organised by Rochdale Borough Council, Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival is the flagship event to promote the prestigious Maskew Collection, so a partnership can also enable companies to achieve corporate social responsibility objectives. Demographics The Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival audience comprises families, young people, 25 65 year olds and 65+ typically, although the programme really will provide something for everyone. Visitors enjoy books, drama, comedy, music, films and the arts! As well as the borough of Rochdale, people travel to the festival from across the North West. Festival audiences are informed consumers, who support businesses which are committed to their communities. Annie Maskew Frank Maskew
