3 About the awards Background In 2005 the London Borough of Havering launched its inaugural business awards to reward excellence and innovation, and recognise best practice within the Havering business community. Now in its 11th year, the Havering are widely recognised and sought after in the local business community. For 2015 To coincide with the 50th anniversary of the London Borough of Havering, a glittering gala evening is planned for the Havering 2015 on 16th October at CEME Rainham, providing guests with an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and for professionals to network with other successful local businesses. Special guest speakers, presenters, and entertainment will be announced at the launch of the Havering 2015 on 18 May. Why sponsor? A range of sponsorship packages are available to suit the individual needs of sponsors, and offer an exhaustive range of press coverage, advertising and new business opportunities that may not ordinarily be available to businesses. Our aim is to ensure that all sponsors are given the opportunity to raise customer confidence, enhance their company position within the borough, help build new business relations and strengthen those they already hold. Sponsorship packages are designed to offer a 300% return for a financial investment. The financial support provided by sponsorship is gratefully received, and ensures that the Havering continue to effectively support the business community, year on year. 4 Award Categories for 2015 The award categories recognise the success and achievement of individuals and businesses of all sizes, their growth and potential. 1. Golden Anniversary Award for Achievement The London Borough of Havering was formed in 1965, and to celebrate its 50th anniversary, this prestigious award (for one year only), is open to all businesses in the borough who have stood the test of time (10 years or more), evolving products and services and embracing new technologies, which continue to strive in their field today. 2. Growing Business of the Year This award is for companies who have been trading for a minimum of 3 years and who can show a high growth in turnover and profit, and/or employees and products or services, over the last 12 months. 3. Havering Business of the Year This is one of the biggest awards of the evening, recognising the business, large or small, in Havering, which has performed the best during the year. We re looking for a business that stands out. It could be down to financial performance, social responsibility, customer service and loyalty or another reason that makes it the best. 4. Innovation Award To acknowledge the use of technology and innovation within an organisation, or for production of an innovative product or service. 5. New Business of the Year Acknowledging a new company that has achieved significant success within its first 2 years of trading. 6. Apprentice of the Year This award is open to an apprentice who has shown outstanding progress and commitment to their own personal development, and their progression on a recognised learning scheme. 7. Customer Care Award To recognise the best retail or customer service business in Havering; open to retail outlets or service providers. 8. Best Small Business of the Year Designed for sole traders or businesses with five employees or less, who are making an impact within their field. 9. Environmental Business of the Year To recognise the most outstanding business for playing their part in reducing their carbon footprint. Entries are sought from businesses who manufacture an environmentally friendly product, or where environmental sustainability has been a key consideration, including reducing energy use or promoting transport incentive initiatives, a waste and recycling programme, or green purchasing.

Business Person of the Year To acknowledge a managing director, owner or manager who has achieved significant success in his/her business during the past 12 months. 11. Retailer of the Year Focuses on the retail businesses and highlights the relationship with the consumer. This category will be judged by a public vote and then a mystery shop. 12. Community Pride Award This award is open to companies, charities or volunteer groups actively engaged in putting something back into the local community e.g. helping out at the youth centres, clearing up rubbish, helping to renovate parks and woodlands, providing training or re-training, donating used equipment, the list is almost endless. The judging for this category will be split into two awards: 1. Business 2. Charity/Voluntary. 13. Best Family Business of the Year This award will recognise the large number of family businesses that contribute to the borough s economy. We will be looking for the business that best demonstrates how running a family owned and managed business has added significantly to its competitive advantage. The company will need to show how being a family owned and managed business, has had a positive impact on their achievements. 14. Employee of the Year This award will recognise an employee within a company or organisation. This person will need to be nominated by their department manager or company owner and be able to demonstrate their outstanding contribution to the company or organisation. 15. Staff Training & Development Award Designed to identify organisation s that have a clear and focused business strategy, incorporating a positive commitment to on-going staff training and development. The category will look at; good practice within the companies to train and promote from within, coaching of people from all age groups and backgrounds to achieve goals and the use of apprentices.
