JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE OF POSITION CLASSIFICATION LEVEL PROGRAM Garden Project Officer LCC Level 3 year 1, 0.2FTE Peachey Place Living Skills Centre, Davoren Park OVERVIEW Lutheran Community Care provides community services on behalf of the Lutheran Church in South Australia and the Northern Territory through a range of programs. We support communities through responding to the needs of individuals and families, community development, learning opportunities, accommodation and support. Current programs include emergency relief, financial counselling, family support and education, foster care, housing and family shelter and refugee services. The Peachey Place Living Skills Centre was developed to enhance the life skills of community members and provide opportunities for strengthening the community. It is the result of a partnership between Lutheran Community Care, The Burundian Association, Housing SA and the City of Playford. Lutheran Community Care is the employing agency and a management committee, with representatives from the partners and community members, will provide advice and direction to the project. ROLE SUMMARY The aims and objectives of this role is to coordinate regular garden blitz activities. The role will be responsible for recruiting, inducting and supervising a team of volunteers who will be involved in gardening activities in the Growing Greener Thumbs in Playford project. This new project will help highly vulnerable people, at risk of homelessness maintain their house and garden, connect with community and learn new life skills. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Garden Project Officer reports to the Coordinator Peachey Place Living Skills Centre.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS This position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Screening conducted by DCSI Screening Unit and requires the incumbent to hold a current South Australian Drivers Licence and have availability, for work purposes, of own registered, roadworthy and comprehensively insured private vehicle. (Travel will be reimbursed)

ROLE: Home Assessments and Garden Blitz. Administration Work Health and Safety Volunteer Management RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE: Work in conjunction with the project coordinator to assess the needs of the household and negotiate what the project can provide. Plan garden blitz activities. Source materials for the job. Photograph garden blitz sites before and after activities. Ensure management of information, data and records. Monitor day to day finances. Contribute to report writing for Growing Greener Thumbs in Playford. Provide advice to the coordinator about issues and trends that impact upon service delivery. Contribute to business planning including providing advice and support. Develop key strategic relationships to achieve goals and improve outcomes. Understand and apply WHS. Identify and addresses hazards and risk. Assist in the training of volunteer in WHS. Ensure volunteers have appropriate protective clothing, foot ware and safety equipment for their use. Recruit, induct and support volunteers to provide regular garden activities off site. Coordinate transport of volunteers to the sites. Provide initial and ongoing training for volunteers. Supervise and support volunteers both individually and in group sessions. Dismiss volunteers as required. Keep appropriate records and ensure the collection of statistical information for volunteers.
PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:. Good general knowledge of gardening Sound skills in problem solving and negotiation. Experience in working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Good communication and written skills.] Ability to prioritise work time and set targets.
