What types of courses does Monash offer? Monash has one of the most extensive range of courses in Australia. So take your pick whatever your career ambitions, personal interests and life situation, there s a course of study to match it. Double degree courses A double degree course means you study two courses at the same time, allowing you to gain skills and knowledge in two fields of interest. Double degrees take two years less to complete than taking the courses one after the other because electives from each course count towards the other. Contents 1 Why study at Monash University? 2 Things to consider when choosing a pathway Diploma of Tertiary Studies (DoTS) 3 Diploma of Higher Eduåcation (DoHE) 4 Monash Access Program (MAP) 5 Single university units 6 Monash College Diploma 7 Indigenous Enabling Program (IEP) Indigenous Non-Award Pathway (INAP) 8 TAFE/VET pathways 9 Important dates Scholarships 10 Table summary of pathways for Monash undergraduate courses We all aspire toward a university education for different reasons, at different times and under different circumstances. This diversity is at the heart of the Monash community. Whatever the route that has led you here, if you re capable and committed there is a pathway to making your dreams the reality. A pathway program can be just what you need for many reasons. You may be: returning to study after a period in the workforce or after raising a family changing careers moving from TAFE/VET or other studies into university needing an alternative to VCE to enter your preferred course because your education was interrupted, and you didn t finish Year 12 or a similar qualification wanting to try university study before committing to a full degree. Regardless, our pathway programs into courses recognise the circumstances that talented people need so that they can realise their goals and achieve their heart s desire to study at Monash. There are even scholarships for financial support and services to help you make the most from your time at University. So don t wait any longer follow your dreams and take action today. For more information visit study.monash/courses Flexibility and choice A comprehensive course at Monash is all about developing expertise. These courses offer a variety of options across a broad range of study areas including arts, business, commerce, information technology and science. Comprehensive courses offer maximum flexibility and choice. You can choose comprehensive courses already knowing what your major area of study will be. But if you are still deciding these courses offer the opportunity to try a range of subjects in your first year, before choosing your major area of study for the remaining years. Structured for early specialisation Specialist courses enable you to concentrate in a particular area of study from day one, giving you the focus and depth required for entry into many careers. While some specialist courses are designed to prepare you for specific professions, others concentrate on developing particular expertise that is applicable to a broader range of related careers. For more information about the range of Monash courses available visit study.monash/courses Full-time/part-time Monash offers both full-time and parttime study options in most courses. You can enrol in just one unit or up to the maximum for your course (usually four units per semester). You can make this decision each semester. So you might be part-time one semester and then decide to increase your units the next. /off-campus Some Monash courses are offered off-campus. Off-campus simply means you do not need to attend classes. It is a flexible mode of study, based on a combination of printed study materials and electronic communication. Each unit studied in the off-campus learning mode has the same content and assessment as the equivalent on-campus unit. If you have work or other commitments, off-campus learning enables you to further your studies at your own pace. *Source: Times University Education World University Rankings, 2012 2015. 1

Things to consider when choosing a pathway Where are you hoping pathway study will take you? Are you considering a pathway option as a way to secure entry into your preferred course? Or would you like to try out university study by completing some single units? There are a range of reasons for completing a pathway option. To decide which pathway option is best for you, consider why you are doing it and where you hope to end up. Are you eligible for credit for previous study? Sometimes the study you complete as part of your pathway can count towards your preferred course. When researching your preferred course and eligible pathway study, take note of any options that would give you credit for previous study. Research your options Completing a pathway option to secure a place in your preferred course can be a great option. However, pathway study is not always interchangeable. Make sure you research your preferred course and find out what pathway study options are applicable. Diploma of Tertiary Studies (DoTS) Pathways into: Business, Education or Nursing You should also check whether you are required to achieve a certain mark or grade in your pathway study or if there are any specific prerequisite units that must be completed for example Year 12 Mathematics or English.
