3 Page 3 DoTS and DoHE at Monash The Diploma of Tertiary Studies (DoTS) offers an alternative entry pathway to Monash should students not meet the requirements for direct entry into a range of Monash bachelor degrees. DoTS is equivalent to first year of a university undergraduate degree, and students can enter directly into second year of destination Monash degrees upon successful completion of the Diploma. The one year program lets students begin studying towards their Monash degree from day one and is currently offered at our Berwick and Peninsula campuses. When students apply for DoTS, they will select a preferred stream from Business, Education or Nursing. It is this stream that forms the first year of their degree, and determines the Monash destination degree they can pathway into. To apply for DoTS, students will need to have completed either Year 12 with an ATAR of at least 50, and must also have met the relevant English prerequisite and complete a supplementary form. Students interested in studying science, mathematics or related areas, might like to consider the Diploma of Higher Education (DoHE), currently offered at the Clayton campus, and which provides an alternative entry pathway into an undergraduate course in these areas. Like the DoTS program, this program also lets students begin studying towards their Monash degree from day one. Students will be introduced to a broad range of science fields by completing a sequence of study in two of the following areas: Biological Science, Chemistry, Geosciences, Mathematics and Physics. This will allow students gain a foundation in key scientific principles while determining their future major area of study. All important details about both the DoTS and DoHE including prerequisite information can be found on at Business Open House Monash will be offering students the opportunity to be one of the first to visit its new city location at the Business Open House. Find out more by visiting Business Open House

However, you are more than welcome to contact an institution to arrange a visit any time. What happens on an Open Day? On Open Day you can visit an institution when it s at its best. Everyone is there academics, lecturers, current students and information officers. More importantly, you can talk with academics, lecturers and current students about what certain courses are actually like, and what is required to get into them. Who should attend an Open Day? Anyone who is considering studying at a tertiary level in the next few years should attend.
9 Page 9 University Open Day ideas Why should you attend an Open Day? Apart from the opportunity to obtain course information there are many other reasons why attending an Open Day is a good idea: You are going to feel more comfortable arriving at a university or TAFE institute on the first day of classes if you have been there before. What is really involved in the course or courses you are interested in? If you have to move away from home, where are you going to live? Will you be happier studying in a large metropolitan institution or a smaller, perhaps rural institution? What does the place feel like? Is it a bustling environment with lots of activity or a quieter, more relaxed campus set in landscaped grounds? How are you going to get there? Is it close to public transport or should you start saving now for a car? If you don t know the answers to any of these questions, then you should attend an Open Day! How to make the best of Open Days To make your Open Day visits fun and informative, here are some pointers: Write down a list of questions you would like to ask about particular courses Be there early. Crowds tend to develop as the day progresses On arrival, get a map from a central point and ask for directions to the relevant faculties or schools Ask questions! Don t spend the day collecting printed information only. Use the opportunity to speak directly with academics before applications close Introduce yourself to selection officers if you feel it is appropriate, but don t be pushy Check out the residential colleges, if available. After all, it is you that will be living there. Walk around the campus. Have a good look! See what sporting facilities and other services are available. VTAC Guide 2016 The VTAC Guide 2016, with its complete course listings, including selection criteria and application process will soon be available as an eguide. It will be available through Apple ibooks and Google Play Books in late July for an introductory price of $4.99, full details are soon to be available at The eguide contains all the necessary information for applying for courses in all Victorian universities and TAFE institutes as well as a large number of private tertiary providers. A condensed hardcopy of the VTAC Guide 2016 outlining the application process and course listings will be available in newsagencies no later than the beginning of August at a cost of $ A number of reference copies of hardcopy VTAC Guides will soon be available in the Careers Centre, but it is suggested that all Year 12 students purchase their own eguide.
