Iput/Output haels The followig types of iput ad output chael are supported: Uiversal Iput/Output (UIO) Uiversal Iput (UI) Digital Iputs (DI) Digital/Relay Output (DO) Aalogue Outputs (AO) Digital iput: Used for a volt free cotact, logic circuit (e.g. TTL, MOS), ope collector (trasistor) or ope drai (FET). Example wirig able Screeig The use of screeed cable for iput ad/or output coectios is optioal but ot geerally required uless the cable passes through electrically oisy eviromets. 270 μa TTL / MOS If screeed cable is used the scree must be coected to the local pael/eclosure groud ad left utermiated at the far ed. Uiversal Iput/Output (UIO) These chaels will fuctio as oe of the followig accordig to the cotroller strategy: thermistor iput, voltage iput, digital iput, curret iput, or aalogue output. The iput or output fuctio is set automatically by the strategy cofiguratio i the cotroller. Thermistor iput: Used for a thermistor (NT 10 kω @ 25 (77 F), -40 to 110 (-40 F to 230 F)), potetiometer (0 to 200 kω) or fa speed cotrol. The thermistor bridge resistor is 12 kω with a bridge supply 3.3 V. Example wirig volt free ope collector 0V logic circuit The volt free cotact has a omial wettig curret of 270 μa. The iput is ON whe the cotact is closed. A ope collector or ope drai must be able to sik 270 μa. The iput is ON whe the trasistor or FET coducts. A logic circuit must be able to sik 270 μa. The iput will be ON whe the applied voltage is less tha 2 Vdc (miimum 0 V). A voltage of greater tha 3.5 Vdc (maximum 50 Vdc) will tur the iput OFF. Voltage levels betwee 2 ad 3.5 Vdc may cause idetermiate operatio. urret iput: Used for 0 to 20 ma sources. May be either loop powered or exterally powered accordig to which termials are coected. Data Sheet Uiversal Iput (UI) These chaels will fuctio as oe of the followig accordig to the cotroller strategy: voltage iput, thermistor iput, digital iput, or curret iput. urret iput: Used for 0 to 20 ma sources which are exterally powered. Polarity must be observed. 24 Vac ±20% Load >1.6kΩ 24 Vac ±20% 1K6 Load <1.6kΩ A logic circuit must be able to sik 270 μa. The iput will be ON whe the voltage preset o the iput termial is less tha 2 Vdc (miimum 0V). A voltage greater tha 3.5 Vdc (maximum 50 Vdc) or ope circuit will tur the iput OFF. Voltage levels betwee 2 ad 3.5 Vdc may cause idetermiate operatio. I the above example the iput will be ON whe the load is powered. Data Sheet IQ4/IO/.. Aalogue Output (AO) Provides a variable voltage betwee 0 to 10 Vdc. The output ca source up to 20mA ad sik up to 3mA. Example wirig A short rigid itercoector (IQ4/I/LINK) is available to allow easy coectio betwee adjacet s. Oe itercoector is supplied with each ; spare itercoectors are also available (see Accessories o page 10). LOAD 0 to 10 Vdc 0 V Digital/Relay Output (DO) These chaels provide a sigle pole dry cotact chageover relay. Example wirig Note: Rigid itercoectors caot be used betwee IQ4/IO s ad XITE/IO s or a IQ3/XITE cotroller. I such cases a cabled itercoectio must be used (see below). Where s are mouted separately from the cotroller (or from eighbourig s) the itercoectio may be made usig a IQ4/I/ADPT cable adapter (see Accessories o page 10) ad suitable screeed cablig (see table below). POWER SUPPLY LOAD The relay cotacts close (i.e. NO makes with ) whe the output chael is ON. Bus IQ4/IO s itercoect with each other ad the cotroller via the bus, which comprises the followig power ad sigal coectios: +24 Vdc Data Hi Groud Data Lo 0 V Access to the bus o the IQ4E cotroller is via a coectig poit located o the right-had side of the uit. Each IQ4/IO has a similar coectig poit o both the left ad right-had side, eablig the bus to be daisy-chaied betwee s. Note: The IQ4/I/ADPT cable adapter icludes o-replaceable fuses ad Trasiet Voltage Suppressio diodes that protect the bus from over-curret ad over-voltage coditios caused by electrical trasiets or icorrect wirig. abled itercoectios ca also be used to lik IQ4/IO s with XITE/IO s or a IQ3/XITE cotroller. Note: The XITE/IO ad IQ3/XITE require a differet cable adapter (see Accessories o page 10). Betwee s the bus may be wired from right to left side (as show above), right to right or left to left, as log as correct bus polarity is maitaied. Spurs are ot permitted. Bus Termiatio The bus must be termiated at the farthest ed from the cotroller. A suitable plug-i termiator (IQ4/I/TERM) is supplied with the IQ4E cotroller, ad spare termiators are also available (see Accessories o page 10). Earthig/Groudig Arragemets It is importat that correct earthig/groudig is provided for the cotroller ad s o the bus. The bus groud is coected to earth/groud via the cotroller. Modules located withi the same secodary eclosure are earthed/grouded via the bus. Where s are located i differet secodary eclosures or where bus cables exceed 1 m (39 ) a local earth/groud coectio must be provided. For further details refer to the IQ4/IO Expasio Modules Istallatio Istructios - Moutig (TG201342). All DIN rails must be earthed/grouded. Module Power Supply s are typically powered from the cotroller via the bus. The bus supply is derived from the cotroller s combied 24 Vdc supply ad, therefore, the maximum curret available to the bus depeds upo other curret demads placed o the cotroller. For further details o the bus curret refer to the IQ4E otroller Data Sheet (TA201340) or IQ3 otroller Data Sheet (TA200505). Additioal Power Supplies Importat: Not permitted for UL compliat istallatios. Where it is ecessary to istall a additioal power supply alog the bus, the supply output must be isolated from earth (groud). The supply uit must also comply with the relevat EM ad safety stadards. Note: Tred offer a rage of DIN rail mouted auxiliary power supplies that are suitable for this purpose. Where the supply is required the ormal 24 Vdc bus coectio betwee s is ot made. Istead the supply uit is wired betwee the 24 Vdc ad 0 V termials as show below: Module N Data Hi Groud Data Lo 0 V earest to the cotroller Power Supply + +24 Vdc Data Hi Groud Data Lo 0 V Module Importat: The 0 V coectio must be made whe a exteral supply is used ad the 0 V lie must be cotiuous for the etire legth of the bus. The stadard cable adapter (IQ4/I/ADPT) is used to make the coectio of exteral power supply uits to the bus. Additioal supplies may also be required i the followig circumstaces: at the ed of a log bus cable ru, to prevet voltage drop o the bus supply, where the curret flow through the power lie of a would exceed the maximum of 1 A, thus requirig the bus power lie to be split or segmeted. 24 Vdc PSU Module Addressig T 24 Vdc PSU Each o the bus must be assiged a uique address (betwee 1 ad 30). The cotroller will automatically attempt to match each physical with its correspodig strategy ad set its address accordigly. Module addresses ca be cofigured withi the cotroller strategy, or maually chaged usig SET or the cotroller s web page iterface.
