1 Appedix: Serial Port Settigs Serial Port Settigs (RS-232C) The pi assigmets for the serial cables (RS-232C cables) which ca be used with this priter are show i the table below. You ca purchase the cables at a electroics store. Do ot use cables exceedig 3 meters i legth. 2 HOW TO SET the Serial settigs Note: Whe sedig a commad directly to the COM port, the iput/output settigs of the computer ad the P-touch must set correctly. The maufacturer s default settigs for serial trasmissio with the P-touch are idicated below i bold ad uderlied. Baud rate 115.2k, 57.6k, 9600 Busy DTR, Xo/Xoff Bit legth 8, 7 Parity NONE, ODD, EVEN Stop bit 1 bit 1. Switchig by operatio o the machie : Setup mode Get i the Setup mode o the machie Press the ON/OFF butto while at the same time holdig both the Up arrow butto ad dow arrow butto with the power supply off. If =0 Hardware (DTR) If =1 X-ON/X-OFF (The default settig is Hardware (DTR).) The settig is applied the ext time that the P-touch is tured o. (0 1) 3. Switchig by usig the utility icluded with the Widows priter driver Procedure (1) Istall the priter driver. (Switchig the mode is possible from either a serial or a USB coectio.) (2) From the Priters folder, display the properties for Brother QL-650TD. O Widows 9x: Click the [Utility] butto o the Advaced tab to start up the Brother QL-650TD Utility. O Widows NT: Click the [Utility] butto o the Device Settigs tab, ad the click the [Properties] butto that appears to start up the Brother QL-650TD Utility. The settig is made from the Commad Mode box o the dialog box that appeared. I order to apply this settig, the P-touch must be tured off, the o agai. 4

5 Cautio If the priter driver is istalled with a serial coectio, the priter port is the COM port where the P-touch is coected. To prit from the same computer usig the ESC/P mode, use the utility to switch modes, ad the chage the priter port of the Brother QL-650TD to a differet port, such as FILE:, so that the COM port where the P-touch is coected is o loger beig used. If the P-touch is set to the Raster mode text output caot be received by code. However, if the P-touch is set to the ESC/P mode, the priter driver automatically switches to raster mode to output the raster data. 5
