4 Coversio Procedure Coversio Procedure Covertig your QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser to a QMS magicolor 2 CX Prit System ivolves two steps: Removig the magicolor 2 DeskLaser cotroller board ad istallig the magicolor 2 CX cotroller board.» Note: You ll eed a Phillips screwdriver for this procedure. Applyig the appropriate idetificatio labels. Istallig the priter driver(s). Cautio: It s very importat to protect the priter cotroller board from electrostatic damage while performig this coversio. Attach oe ed of the ati-static wrist bad icluded i this kit to your wrist ad the other ed to ay coveiet electrical groud. The bare metal chassis of equipmet, such as o the back of a computer, is suitable if it is plugged i but tured off. Never attach the wrist strap to ay piece of equipmet with a electrical curret preset. Tur off all power switches first. Plastic, rubber, wood, paited metal surfaces, ad telephoes are ot acceptable groudig poits. 5 Coversio Procedure Istallig the magicolor 2 CX Cotroller Board Cautio: The followig procedure is writte for the system admiistrator. Do ot attempt this procedure if you have o experiece workig with circuit boards. 1 Tur off the priter, remove the power cord, ad discoect all iterface cables from the priter. 2 Usig a Phillips screwdriver, loose the two moutig screws that hold the cotroller board to the priter. 3 Pull the magicolor 2 DeskLaser cotroller board straight out ad lay it o a flat surface. 4 Remove from its packagig the magicolor 2 CX cotroller board. 5 If you wat to, remove ay SIMMs from the magicolor 2 DeskLaser cotroller board, ad istall them o the magicolor 2 CX cotroller board. The magicolor 2 CX cotrol board comes stadard with 24 MB of memory. It s ot ecessary to add additioal memory, but you may wat to. Refer to the QMS magicolor 2 Optios maual for SIMM removal ad istallatio istructios. 6 Remove from their packagig ay SIMMs you purchased separately ad istall them o the magicolor 2 CX cotroller board. Agai, it s ot ecessary to add additioal memory, but you may wat to. Refer to the QMS magicolor 2 Optios maual for SIMM istallatio istructios. 7 If you purchased ay other optios, such as a iteral hard disk, istall them ow. 6 Coversio Procedure 8 Alig the magicolor 2 CX cotroller board o the plastic guides, ad the slide it ito the priter. Make sure it s properly seated i its coectors, but do ot force it. 9 Tighte the two moutig screws. 10 Recoect the iterface cables ad power cord, ad the tur o the priter. Verifyig the Coversio To verify the coversio, tur o the priter. A start-up page, idetifyig the priter as a QMS magicolor 2, automatically prits. This idicates that the priter has successfully bee coverted from a QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser to a QMS magicolor 2 CX Prit System. Applyig the Idetificatio Labels Use the followig illustratios to istall the ew dataplate ad product ID logo o the priter.
