5 Chapter 1 Itroductio 1.1 Overview ACARD AEC-6290 ad 6295 are Serial ATA PCI host adapters. They meet serial ATA 1.0 ad parallel ATA 133 specificatios. 7 Chapter 2 Hardware Istallatio 2.1 Quick Istallatio Please follow the 4 steps to istall AEC-6290 or 6295 at oce. (1). Be sure that the system power has bee off. (2). Ope the housig of PC. (3). Isert AEC-6290/6295 ito a available PCI slot firmly. (4). Screw AEC-6290/6295 oto the housig Use Serial ATA HDD Whe usig a serial ATA HDD, follow the 3 steps. (1). Coect the serial ATA cable to AEC-6290/6295 ad the hard drive (ATA 133 cable is fit for the chael 3 ad 4 of AEC-6295). (2). Coect the power cord to the power supply ad the hard drive. (3). Screw the housig of PC, ad plug the system power (see Figure 2-3) Use ATA HDD ad Coverter Whe usig a ATA HDD ad ATA-to-serial coverter, follow the 4 steps. (1). Coect oe ed of the serial ATA cable to AEC-6290/6295 ad aother to the ATA-to-serial coverter. (2). Coect the ATA-to-serial coverter to the ATA HDD, ad coect the small 4- pi power cord to the ATA-to-serial coverter. (3). Coect the power cord to the HDD. (4). Screw the housig of PC, ad plug the system power (see Figure 2-4) Use ATA HDD (for AEC-6295 oly) Whe usig a ATA hard drive, follow the 3 steps. (1). Coect oe ed of the ATA cable to AEC-6295 ad aother to the ATA HDD. (2). Coect the power cord to the HDD. (3). Screw the housig of PC, ad plug the system power (see Figure 2-5). 7

9 2.3 Coectio of Cable ad Power Cord AEC-6290/6295 Maual It is quite easy to coect the ATA 133 cable, serial ATA cable, ad the power cord, because they are foolproof. Here we take AEC-6295 as a example. O the 4- chael adapter Chael 3 ad Chael 4 are two chaels for coectig IDE hard drives while Chael 1 ad Chael 2 for coectig serial oes Coect a Serial HDD (1). Coect the serial ATA cable to AEC-6295 ad the serial hard drive. (2). Coect the power cord to the hard drive. Figure 2-3 9

10 But If your hard drive is ot a serial oe, you eed a coverter to coect. (1). Coect oe ed of the serial ATA cable to AEC-6295 ad aother to the ATAto-serial coverter. (2). Coect the coverter to the IDE HDD, the coect them with a Y-splitter power cord. Figure Coect a IDE HDD (1). Fid out a color lie of the ATA 133 cable idicatig pi 1 of the coector. (2). Fid out pi 1 of the coector o the IDE hard drive. (3). Coect the ATA 133 cable to the IDE hard drive by pi 1 to pi 1. (4). Coect the power cord to the IDE hard drive. 10

12 Chapter 3 BIOS Setup After istallig AEC-6290/6295 ad bootig the host PC, you will see the followig figure idicatig your BIOS versio, hard drive iformatio, etc. Here we oly take AEC-6290 as a example. Meawhile at the bottom of the scree, you ca see the locatio ad capacity of hard drives. 12

Boot HardDisk Device: Set a bootable IDE device. 13

14 Figure Utility Quick Erase: It ca quickly erase the data o a selected hard drive. Beware that the data ad the partitios will be completely erased. Figure Load Defaults This ca recover the defaults of BIOS. 14

15 3.5 Exit Setup Cacel: It makes ieffective or ioperative. Update Data & Exit: Save ad leave. No update, Exit: Leave withoug savig. Figure

16 Chapter 4 System & Driver Istallatio Driver istallatio varies somewhat i differet operatig systems. You ca istall the driver of AEC-6290/6295 i a existig OS, or istall a ew OS to the hard drive coected to AEC-6290/6295. The secod method ca be said to boot from the adapter. 4.1 I Wi 2000/XP We oly take istallig the driver of AEC-6295 i Widows XP as a example Istall the Driver Please follow the steps give below to istall the driver of AEC (1). After istallig AEC-6295, boot the PC ad eter Widows XP. (2). The system will detect a ew device ad require a directory to access. Select Istall from a list or specific locatio (Advaced). The click Next. Figure

17 (3). Follow the wizard. Widows XP will require the driver s locatio. Select Iclude this locatio i the search. (4). Select Browse to fid the driver s directory such as A:\WiXP. Figure 4-2 (5). After the wizard fids the driver, click Next to istall it. Figure

21 NOTICE: Durig driver istallatio, if you ecouter the problem of Widows logo, please click Cotiue Ayway. Widows logo is a mechaism desiged to prevet OS from workig abormally because of istallig uidetified software. Yet, the driver of AEC-6290 or 6295 is prove ot to affect the etire work of OS Boot from AEC-6290/6295 Please follow the steps give below to istall a ew OS to the hard drive coected to AEC-6290/6295. Thus you ca boot from the adapter. (1). Fid the support CD cotaiig the driver of AEC-6290/6295 from the package. Copy the driver ito a formatted floppy disk, ad label it. Refer to Appedix A. (2). Place the origial CD of Wi 2000 or XP ito CD-ROM, ad boot from hece. (3). O seeig the first blue scree, you eed to press <F6> to istall the OS to the hard drive coected to SCSI or RAID card. After the istallatio program loads eeded files, please press <S> ad put the driver disk ito floppy drive. (5). The istallatio program will load the driver of AEC-6290/6295. Ad you ca select the hard drive or array ito which you ited to istall the OS. The follow the wizard to complete. (6). Durig istallatio, if you ecouter the problem of Widows logo, please click Cotiue Ayway. 4.2 I Wi NT Istall the Driver Please follow the steps give below to istall the driver of AEC-6290/6295. (1). After istallig the adapter, boot the origial system agai. (2). Click My Computer, Cotrol Pael, SCSI Adapters, ad Drivers. The click Add. Put the driver disk or CD of AEC-6290/6295, ad specify the driver s locatio. 21

22 (3) Follow the wizard to complete. After executio, boot the system agai Boot from AEC-6290/6295 Please refer to I Wi 9X/ME Istall the Driver (1). The procedures are similar to those i Follow the wizard to complete. (2). After istallatio, boot the system agai. The click My Computer, Cotrol Pael, System, Device Maager, ad SCSI or RAID Cotrollers. If you ca fid AEC-6290/6295, that meas successful istallatio Boot from AEC-6290/6295 (1). Boot the computer ad eter DOS. Build a array o BIOS, the execute FDISK to partitio the hard drive coected to AEC-6290/6295. (2). Boot agai, ad format the ewly created partitio. (3). Boot the system agai. Place the origial CD of 9X/ME ito CD-ROM, ad begi istallig the OS. (4). Click My Computer, Cotrol Pael, System, ad Device Maager. You will lear that the system has foud a ukow SCSI cotroller. (5). Put the driver of AEC-6290/6295, ad let the system search automatically. Or you ca specify the driver s locatio, ad tell OS to get for istallatio. Follow the wizard to complete. 4.4 I Liux There is a variety i Liux versio, but the istallatio is similar. Please refer to README.txt i various versios, or visit to dowload the istallatio guide. 22

23 Chapter 5 Troubleshootig After istallig AEC-6290/6295, if it caot work ormally, please use the checklist give below to solve the problems. (1). Ispect if the power cord s coectors are loose, or if the watt of power supply is ot sufficiet. (2). Ispect if the jumper settigs o the hard drive are all Master or Slave. (3). Ispect if AEC-6290/6295 is firmly iserted ito the PCI slot. (4). Ispect if the coectors of ATA 133 cable are loose or damaged. 23

24 Appedix A Make A Istallatio Disk For istallig a OS like Widows 2000/NT/XP ito a hard drive with ACARD adapter, you eed a floppy disk cotaiig the adapter s driver to boot the hard drive. Please follow the steps below to make a ACARD adapter s driver disk. 1. Isert ACARD Support CD ito CD-ROM. 2. Click Explore This CD to get the CD file widow. 24

25 3. Uder the Driver folder fid your adapter s model umber. For example, AEC s driver is Driver>IDE>AEC6880V

26 4. Choose the driver folder, ad right-click Sed to 3.5 floppy. Meawhile isert a empty disk ito floppy drive. 5. Now use the driver disk to boot the hard drive ad istall the OS. 26

27 Appedix B ASPITool32 Maager AEC-6290/6295 Maual The ASPITool32 Maager program has may fuctios aimed at makig the hard drives work properly uder the Widows OS while they are coected with the ACARD SCSI or IDE adapter. The ASPITool32 Maager program is proudly developed by ACARD. You may get the setup program from the ACARD Driver CD. ASPITool32 Maager Fuctios 1.FDsik: Create a partitio o the hard drive. 2.Disk QErase: Quickly erase the cotets of the hard drive. Please beware that the data o the partitio will be completely erased. 3.Disk Format: Format the partitio. 4.Disk Diagose: Detect the hard drive ad check whether it works properly. 5.Disk iformatio: Provide the iformatio of BPB ad the partitio. 6.Disk Verify: Verify the hard drive ad check if there is ay bad sector. 7.O Now: Sca the SCSI bus agai ad check if there is ay ew device added. 8.About: Provide iformatio of ASPITool32. 9.Hide: Hide the tool bar. 10.Disk Express Setup: Istruct how to create ad format the partitio. 27
