students For Annette s story, visit www.totton.ac.uk/annette Annette For Kirsty s story, visit www.totton.ac.uk/kirsty Kirsty Professor Karen Randell, 51, Southampton Annette Eales, 47, Lymington Kirsty Lucas, 34, For Karen s story, visit www.totton.ac.uk/karen Even though I studied at some time ago, I owe my career to the guidance and support I had whilst I was there. Professor Karen Randell I never thought I would be able to achieve what I have I had planned to go to college to be an administrator but ended up becoming a University Professor. I did it, even whilst being pregnant, raising a young family and through many moments of doubt. The support of my family and friends and the belief and drive of my tutors helped me get where I am now. I even dedicated my first book to my English tutor, Pat Lawson! I initially came across as I was interested in doing an art course in my spare time. Now I m going to University to study Fine Art. I never thought this was the direction I would take, particularly at this time in my life, but I m so excited about where I am going to go next! I was an under-confident, isolated person. There was no way that I would have taken part in a case study like this. However, being on the Teaching Assistant course has made such a significant difference to my life. It has been hard work, but I ve become the bubbly person I am today in part due to the time I spent here. Anyone can do it, and it s the best thing I ve ever done. Karen 16 17
