20 Building Confidence At Bromley College we recognise that for some students learning in an academic environment can be less stimulating than learning in a practical setting with hands-on activities. That s why we have concentrated on putting together programmes that will suit students who have their sights set on a particular career path. We offer every student the chance to study in a mature environment and to develop the skills needed to progress at 16. The College has the same expectations and standards as school, however in most cases the classes are smaller and each class will contain students who have come from a variety of local schools. Our students are treated as young adults and are expected to behave in an appropriate manner, they learn to be more mature and develop a stronger personal identity as a result. Our staff have a wealth of teaching experience from both vocational and traditional school backgrounds, as well as experience in the workplace, which enables them to spot talent and develop skills successfully. 19
21 A Safe Place to Study At Bromley College we take the safeguarding of our young people very seriously. We are experienced in looking after 14-year old students and have robust and established policies and processes in place. A dedicated area is provided for the sole use of students. Students will have access to other areas of the College to suit their studies. Students wear a school uniform which clearly identifies them as part of the College. Our team of experienced staff will tutor, teach and support the learning of our year old students. Extra curricular activities and trips will help boost self-confidence and social skills. We recognise that from time to time, students will need emotional support when in College. Sometimes this will just result in an informal chat with a member of staff, sometimes it may help to involve a student counsellor who can deal with bigger issues. 20
22 How to Apply Come along to one of our Open Events - all the details you need can be found on our website - If you are unable to attend the events, we have a range of information on our website which will tell you more - you can also register your interest in the programme. We ll keep in touch with you and update you on developments. How do I apply? Simply fill out our application form on the website: and we will invite you in for an interview. During the interview we will ask the student to complete a quick online assessment which we will use to gauge whether the course is suitable. Once this is complete, we will write to let you know the outcome and advise you of the next steps to enrolment. How do I let my child s school know we are switching to Bromley College? We will explain how the system works after the offer is made. We urge you not to give up any place before we have confirmed our offer to you in writing.
