2 LIVE YOUR DREAM Mohammed Maleki Pre-sessional: English for Academic Progression Mohammad came to Walsall College from Iran to study English, to help him achieve his dream of becoming an international airline pilot. Mohammad has seen his English skills improve massively as a result of the practical exercises and local tours, which are part of the course and also make it a unique and interesting experience. Although everything is different from his usual culture and traditions, he has still found it easy to make friends and feels very welcomed by pupils and staff around the College, making his time at Walsall College a happy and memorable experience. 2

This can lead to study in academic English. Attendance Full time: options of 15/21/25 hours. Length of Framework Flexible throughout the year; please contact the International Office. Entry Requirements You will not need an IELTS score to study on this programme. An initial assessment will help us find your level of English and design the course accordingly. Location Wisemore Campus, Walsall College, Walsall WS2 8ES, UK Course Overview This course will develop your English skills in speaking, reading, listening and speaking. It helps you to: converse in colloquial English and make the most of language learning opportunities use strategies for working out meaning of new language write in different contexts and styles. In addition to classes, you will have a weekly one-to-one tutorial where your tutor discusses progress in detail and advises on learning strategies and activities to develop your skills. Your tutor will also ensure you are happy with all aspects of the programme and help resolve any difficulties in the unlikely event that they arise. Your progress is monitored through a weekly assessment, and you will be issued with a certificate at the end of your course which shows your achievement. As well as classes, students have the option to access the online interactive Burlington English programme, which gives unlimited access to unique speech recognition and correction technology with supported translations in over 33 languages. 18 APPLICATION PROCESS 16 Before Applying If you need general advice and guidance about studying in the UK, then please contact the International Team on or Before you start applying for courses, think about your qualifications, experience, career prospects in your home country and areas that interest you. You will also need to ensure you have sufficient funds in your bank account for 28 days before your application. You might also like to start researching British cultural and lifestyle to prepare yourself for living in the UK. Choosing the right course You can find out about the range of courses that we offer at Walsall College by logging onto international All our courses are designed to meet the needs of International students and you ll feel comfortable as we have smaller class sizes than Universities and offer free additional support with English language skills. Making an application... If you would like to start studying in September then you should start the application process in February or March, as our courses start filling up very early on. Once you ve chosen a full time course that is at Level 3 or above, you can apply online or download our application form and us the following information: A copy of your passport. Evidence of your English language ability with a Secure English Language Test result (SELTS) Copies of previous qualifications and transcripts One bank statement, showing that you have sufficient funds in your account to pay for your fees. You will need to show that you have these funds in an account with your name on it 28 days prior to your visa application, so this will help to prepare you for the 10 points you need for maintenance. We will process your application and arrange for an interview to ensure the course is right for you. Refund In order to obtain a refund, the student must provide proof in the form of a refusal notice from a British Embassy. Refunds are subject to a 260 administration charge. There is no reduction in fees in the case of a late arrival or early departure from a course. A refund will NOT be considered if any of the following have occurred: The student has provided fraudulent or misleading information in their application. The student has broken the law or conditions of his/her visa and is thus required to leave the country as a consequence. The student s visa is revoked as a consequence of not attending the course regularly. The student has broken the terms and conditions of admission to the college. The student wishes to leave the course without good reason. No refunds will be given after a course/ programme of study has started unless a course is discontinued and no suitable alternative is available. All applications for a refund must be made in writing, giving full details of why a refund is being asked for, and should be accompanied by any relevant documentary evidence. * Accommodation fees and living expenses are not included.
