Picking up this guide will set you on the right path to start that hobby you ve always dreamed of, meet new people and gain new skills. Working in a relaxed environment with our highly skilled staff, you ll feel at home straight away. We know that starting a new course can be daunting, but it needn t be at ncn. Paying for my course The course fee listed is the one you pay unless you are eligible for support with your course fees. If you have to buy any specialist materials or equipment, or if you have to travel to get to college, we may be able to help you. In short: Free tuition is available if you re aged 1 1 (as of 31 August 2014). Inspired me to learn more about what I love doing. If you re aged 19+ you may be eligible for free tuition if you fall into one of the categories set out by the Skills Funding Agency. If you re aged 24+ and want to study a Level 3 or 4 qualification, including an Apprenticeship, the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan is available to help you with paying fees. 11 GET AHEAD WITH National Citizen Service (NCS) offers 1-17 year olds a fantastic opportunity to take part in a thrilling programme of outdoor challenges and community work while building their skills for the future and making new friends. NCS runs outside term-time, during the spring, summer and autumn holidays. You may have left school early to start work and are now looking for a promotion or career change, or you may have been out of education for a few years and your current qualifications do not satisfy university level requirements. THE CONFIDENCE TO GO BACK TO EDUCATION When I first heard about the course I was unsure about whether I would be able to do it, but when I found out about its flexibility, I thought wow I can actually have a go at something I want to do, and fit it around my busy lifestyle. I left school when I was 1, and went straight into work, so it was a bit of a shock to go back, but the college tutors have really supported me, helping with things like referencing and personal statements. It s given me the confidence I needed to get back into education and I am now going to do my MSc Nursing with Mental Health degree at Nottingham University. A year ago I never would have dreamt of going to university, but the skills I have learnt at college have been invaluable, so it s not such a big jump anymore and I feel like I know what will be expected of me now. The Access to Nursing course is one of the best things I ve ever done! It s easy to apply your household income isn t taken into account and there s no credit check. You won t have to pay anything back until your income is over 21,000 a year. What s more, if you go on to complete a HE qualification, the outstanding balance of your 24+ Advanced Learning Loan will be written off you ll effectively study your Access to HE course for FREE! 15 Computer Technology Qualifications Are you interested in gaining a qualification in Information Technology? We have a variety of courses available at different sites across our community venues. This is ideal if you are using IT in your existing job or you would like to have a change in career, which requires you to have up-to-date IT skills or qualifications. With the support of our friendly staff, IT units can be achieved at a variety of levels on a part-time basis. Computing course inspires confidence The course has been amazing, I don t know what I would have done without it. I decided to do the course to improve my job prospects, as most jobs need you to have computer skills these days. It helped me a lot, I really looked forward to it, it s something to make your brain work and it s really made my confidence grow as I got to meet new people and make new friends. My tutor has been excellent and has given me a lot of support throughout my time at ncn. I m hoping to do the Advanced Computing course next and the Maths and English GCSE courses.
