3 Christleton High School Christleton is a school where everybody learns. Students are expected to arrive each day well organised practice and seek feedback from students about how learning can constantly be improved. The school is a vibrant community of 1300 students and 200 adults. We work together, reminded by our motto of Happy, Hardworking and Courteous, to create an environment where everyone is welcome, everyone succeeds and diversity is treasured. Facilities are very good and constantly evolving to meet technological progress, new subjects and the changing needs of our society and employment. We believe everyone has talent, and it is our duty to work with students to develop that talent. In turn, students are to see our philosophies in action. 4 Be a parent Do well in my exams. - Student Aspirations Solid Foundations The foundations for learning at Christleton High School are: Appetite and readiness for learning Literacy Numeracy Ability to and love of, reading Energy and a desire to participate Very high levels of attendance Excellent organisation To be successful every student needs to understand their strengths know how well they are progressing and have a good sense of what they need to do next to improve further. Using regular tests and assessments, shared with students and parents, we are able to celebrate progress. Our Lesson Monitor system challenges every child to be outstanding; grades are recorded each lesson and parents are able to log on live so they can enjoy positive dialogue with students about their day. We believe everyone needs an individualised curriculum and that the opportunity for success is there for all.

7 Futures We rely on our young people to take our ideas and shape them for the next generation. It is our job to develop skills and knowledge and to encourage students to make connections, analyse, diagnose, develop and take knowledge forward. This is really important in the areas of science and technology. Students receive a solid foundation in separate sciences taught by subject experts, and this is complemented by a broad range of technologies, including IT, which we believe is a tool to serve all subjects. Over half our students continue to study Maths, Further Maths and Science at A level, and many go to university to read these and related subjects to degree level and beyond. Our strong links with many local employers and research institutions enable modern and technical apprenticeships. Student Aspirations - I want to travel to the moon
8 I want to be an inventor I want to save wild animals - Student Aspirations Pathways In the last 3 years 99% of our students have left school and gone into Higher or Further Education, Apprenticeships or training. 95% have achieved 5A*-C GCSEs the passport to success. their weaknesses and look at where their education might take them. Choice arrives early, with tasters in modern languages and technologies, leading to students making informed decisions about where their education is leading. By Year 9 all students will have begun building a comprehensive They will have visited university campuses, workplaces and listened to visiting speakers talking about information which will lead to great choices for further and higher education, and well beyond. For the last 10 years Christleton High has been listed in the top 400 state schools in the country. Osfted 2010 described the school s Achievement, Attainment, Care and Leadership as OUTSTANDING. Everyone at Christleton High School is expected to be ambitious, thorough, organised, interested in constantly improving, and always committed to giving their best RESULTS A Level - Success 98% A2 A* - B pass rate 57% GCSE s 98% of students achieved eight or more GCSEs including English and Maths

Students are able to choose from over 25 subjects at GCSE, and over 35 at AS and A2 level. We believe that students are most successful when they make informed choices and take responsibility for success. Choice is guided but free and one of the unique features of Christleton High is that the timetable is designed each year to meet the students choices. Many additional subjects are available to examination level, outside the formal curriculum, including Classical Civilisation, PE, RSM Music, Btec Arts and Performing Arts, and Chinese. Many of our students are academically ahead of their age group nationally and for them choice comes earlier along with the opportunity to follow a high level of specialism to suit their ability and aptitude. 15 Learning & Working Together Tradition and modern technology working together produce something special. Our vibrant school is always seeking ways to improve. Learning together, we blur the boundaries between learner, teacher, lesson, club and home study. The opportunities are huge to develop talents in Science, Technology, Creative Writing, Performance, Sport and the Arts. Modern approaches to utilise smartphones, ipads, Apple TV and many other recent developments ensure our students are successful. We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world. 16 I want to be a rugby player. - Student Aspirations Enrichment Through learning at all levels, we continue to improve. We believe in competitive sport; that it develops character and that whilst we always their limits, whether it be in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, or in competitive sport at all levels. SOME OF OUR SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2013 Netball - Years 7, 10 and 11 Chester and District Netball Champions; Years 7 and 11 Cheshire County Champions and Finalists. Cross Country District Champions, Cheshire County Champions and 5th in National Finals. Football Years 7 and 8 District Champions; Year 8 Cheshire County Champions; Years 9 and 10. District Finalists. Athletics Year 7 District Champions; Year 8 District Finalists, Junior Boys North West Finalists. Tennis Years 7 and 8 AEGON Division 1 League Champions. Representative sport 32 students represented Cheshire County in rugby, netball, football or athletics.

18 I want to see the Northern Lights. - Student Aspirations Music and The Arts The Arts add value to all learning as students deepen their understanding of culture, taste, and diversity. They provide the opportunity for discussion, for sharing and comparing talents, aptitudes and taste, and provide enlightenment and inspiration around the school. Over 300 students take instrumental lessons at Christleton Over 200 students are involved in public performance in drama or dance each year Over 600 pieces of students latest artwork are exhibited every term.
