The Qualification The Certificate is an industry recognised and University accredited qualification worth 60 credits, which can be later contributed towards a further qualification, such as a Diploma or Degree. 3 Personal Tutor The course is largely based on guided, independent study; however, students are allocated a personal tutor for the duration of the course. The role of the personal tutor is to offer students guidance and support during their studies and throughout their assignments. Module Content This introductory module offers a general background to the industry, incorporating the history of beauty alongside modern day developments; including the need for Government endorsed organisations and the role of leading brands within the market. This general overview will provide students with a solid foundation, from which they can develop their understanding as the course progresses. It also ensures all students are at a similar level of understanding before they embark on the more detailed elements in later modules. This will enable those who have no industry experience to be sufficiently informed, while allowing those experienced to build on their existing knowledge. 5 Module Content This module focuses on a crucial aspect of any successful company. Students will gain an understanding of business strategies alongside elements of finance; and develop their level of business competence to the standard sought after by employers. Teaching not only the fundamental skills to succeed, but furthermore, providing students with transferable skills, those which can be applied to any business and are therefore, highly sought after by all employers. Similarly to the other modules, students will be responsible for their learning, taking direction from their task sheet and guidance from their personal tutor. Students will build on the pre-requisite general understanding of mathematics and develop their understanding through professional guest speakers, work based learning and access to an extensive range of research material. Student support is offered throughout the course and is available at any point, so all of the resources are easily accessible to ensure that students feel supported and confident in their learning. 6 Module Content The final module focuses on the interpersonal dimensions of a successful business, considering sales skills, marketing strategies and the importance of establishing a strong clientele. Students will cover content ranging from good staff management, to business awareness and promotion Working in such a competitive industry often means that a sustainable and successful business is dependent on the strength of its marketing and promotion. Students will learn how to really identify their target audience and discover the various channels of marketing and advertising available to them; alongside the most viable channels based on cost and their target audience. Students will be taught how to devise more attractive offers at a local and national level as well as through the media; learning how to differentiate between long and short term marketing plans and strategic calenderisation of the business year. Despite the importance of having strong finance and business skills; the time, energy and resources invested into your company would be redundant if your workforce failed to deliver a professional service to ensure that clients returned. Consequently, clientele etiquette and strong staff management are essential interpersonal skills that students will further acquire during this module.
