Events for Seniors TECHconnect Classes for Seniors Covering computer basics, social media and mobile technology. LIMITED SPACES Regular hands-on computer workshops for beginners and intermediate users

Events for Seniors About TECHconnect Classes What are these classes about? These classes are specifically designed for mature adults who are interested in exploring the internet, and becoming familiar with different devices or programs on offer in the online world. Where are the classes held? Most classes are held in our computer training room on the third floor at Bowen Library, 669-673 Anzac Parade, Maroubra. Other venues will be advised in the promotional material. How do I book and what does it cost? The classes are open to library members only. Library membership is free on production of suitable ID. The dates and costs for each of the classes are detailed in the separate insert. Payment must be made at time of booking and bookings can be made in person at any of our three library locations. Please ensure you are able to attend your class as no refunds or transfers for the class fee are available (except in the case of cancellation due to insufficient registrations).

TECHconnect Classes Events for Seniors TECHConnect Basic Series TECHconnect Basics is a three-part series of workshops aimed at those just starting out with computers. Each stage consists of two sessions, both of which should be completed. TECHConnect Online Series TECHconnect Online is a suite of hands-on workshops aimed at those who understand how to use a computer and want to use it to connect with family and friends. Basics One: Getting started with computers Session one: How a computer works and using a mouse. Session Two: Conquering the computer keyboard. Basics Two: Introduction to the Internet Session one: Introduction to the Internet and how to find your way around websites. Session Two: How to search for information on the Internet. Pre-requisites: Completion of Basics One (or equivalent skill with mouse and keyboard). Basics Three: Introduction to Email Session one: How email works, opening, reading and replying to emails and more. Session Two: Those other buttons and what they do, plus let s practice. Pre-requisites: Completion of Basics One and Two (or equivalent skill level). You must have an email address and know your password. Don t have an email address? Ask in the library about arranging a one-on-one session with a volunteer tutor to assist you in setting up an email account. Facebook Learn how to set up a Facebook page, invite friends, search for friends, post a comment, write a message and upload a photo. This session will also look at how to adjust your privacy settings. Skype Learn how to use this free internet service which lets you talk to friends and family anywhere in the world at no cost. Introduction to Social Media 1 & 2 In this course you will gain a good understanding of what social media is and which services you can use and when. In Part 2, we will walk through the process for setting up profiles in Facebook, Google and Twitter and discuss privacy issues when using these services. Managing Your Internet Costs This workshop will help you select the right internet plan and manage the costs associated with connecting to the internet. Introduction to Online Shopping & Banking 1 & 2 Learn how to find things to buy, where to buy from, and how to make payments safely over the internet. Find out why online banking is safe and secure, and how you can save time when you pay your bills online. Sharing Photos and Other Attachments Online In this workshop we ll cover using email and Facebook to share your photos and files. We ll also look at how you can use your Facebook account (if you have one) to upload individual photos and entire photo albums to the web, for viewing by anybody on your friends list or in the world, if you choose.

TECHconnect Classes Events for Seniors TECHConnect Mobile Technology Series TECHConnect Mobile Technology is aimed at those who want to learn to use their tablet but do not know where to start. Introduction to Android tablets Learn the basics of navigating around your Android tablet in this small class of 6 students. This hands-on workshop is for android tablet owners only. You must bring your own android tablet to the session. Ipad for Beginners 1 & 2 Learn the basics of navigating around your ipad in this small class of 6 students. This hands-on workshop is for ipad owners only. Students must bring along their own ipad. Introduction to Smart Phones Phones used to be all about making calls, but now your mobile can do so much more. The range of new touchscreen smartphones allows you to access the internet, use social media, get live news updates, play music and video, and much more. TECHConnect One-on-One Need help with technology but prefer a more individual approach? Randwick City Library offers free one-on-one assistance with a techsavvy volunteer. These one hour sessions are booked for a mutually convenient time and date. TECHconnect One-on-One sessions can cover topics including: Getting the most out of your mobile phone, ipad or tablet Getting the most out of your laptop Connecting your laptop or tablet to the WiFi service in the Library Navigating a website Setting up an email account Reading, replying, composing and forwarding email messages Reading, saving and forwarding attachments from an email Creating documents using Word or Wordpad Saving and accessing files from a USB drive Searching for information on Google Reading news online Uploading photos to Facebook Accessing government information Searching the Library catalogue and reserving a library item Accessing self-paced learning tutorials from the Library s webpage Downloading eaudio and ebooks from the Library Bookings are essential in person, or over the phone: 9314 4888 TECHconnect One-on-One is available at all Margaret Martin Library, Bowen Library and Malabar Library.
