This guide assists University of Malta & Junior College users to set up eduroam on their laptop running MS Windows 8 to connect to the wireless network at UoM/JC and at other institutions participating in the eduroam initiative. More information about eduroam is available at: www.um.edu.mt/itservices/facilities/eduroam To set up eduroam on your laptop you need to download and configure the SecureW2 program as indicated below. Note that you must be logged in as administrator to install SecureW2. To download and install SecureW2: 1. Visit any University of Malta or Junior College web page. 2. Click Quicklinks at the top right of the webpage. 3. Choose Manage UoM IT Account. 4. Click Connect to eduroam. 5. Click Download SecureW2 and run/open the SecureW2 file. 6. The Windows User Account Control dialog box is displayed. Click Yes to continue. 7. Choose your preferred language and click OK. This opens the Enterprise Client 3.5.7 Setup window. Click Next to continue. 8. 9. In the Choose Components window, make sure that EAP-TTLS and Tray are selected. Click Install button 10. When the installation is completed click Finish. A restart may be required. 11. Right click the Network Internet access icon in the system tray (at the bottom right of the screen) and click Open Network and Sharing Center. 12. In the Network and Sharing Center, select Set up a new connection or network. 13. Click Manually connect to a wireless network. 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IT Services, University of Malta

Fill in the following details: Network name: eduroam Security type: WPA2-Enterprise Encryption type: AES Tick Start this connection automatically Tick Connect even if the network is not broadcasting. Click Next button. 15. The following window is displayed. Click Change connection settings. 16. The eduroam Wireless Network Properties dialog box is displayed. Click the Security tab. Under Choose a network authentication method: select SecureW2 EAP-TTLS. Click Settings. 17. Windows may display the User Account Control dialog box; if so, click Yes to proceed. 18. The Enterprise Client dialog box is displayed. 19. In the Connection tab untick the option Use alternate outer identity: 20. Click the Certificates tab. Untick the option Verify server certificate. IT Services, University of Malta ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7
21. Click the Authentication tab. In the Select Authentication Method drop down menu select PAP. 22. Click the User account tab. Untick the option Prompt user for credentials and enter the details: Username: University/Junior College email address e.g. john.borg@um.edu.mt e.g. jbor0001@jc.um.edu.mt Password: your email password 8 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IT Services, University of Malta
23. Click OK to save settings. Click OK button again to close the Enterprise Client dialog box. 24. Close all the remaining open windows by clicking OK. 25. Click the wireless icon in the system tray. You should see eduroam listed as a wireless network. Airplane mode should be set to Off. 26. When you are within an eduroam network range, tick the Connect automatically box next to eduroam, and then click Connect.
