What is Dual Credit? Dual Credit are courses offered through Grayson County College that qualify for college credit and high school credit. Students enrolling in dual credit courses must receive prior approval by Pottsboro High School. Not all Dual Credit courses that GCC offer are approved for enrollment by Pottsboro High School.
What courses are approved by PHS? Academic Courses Juniors Only On GCC Campus History 1301 with PSYC 2301 History 1302 with SPCH 1311 Seniors Only On GCC Campus English 1301 with Gov 2305 English 1302 with Econ 2301 On-line at PHS, ONLY If taking Tech Courses English 1301 with Gov 2305 English 1302 with Econ 2301 Technical Courses Seniors Only On GCC Campus Accounting Business Computer Aided Drafting Computer Maintenance Computer Programming Cosmetology Culinary Arts Electrical EMT/Emergency Management Training Finance HVAC/Heating, Ventilation Air- Conditioning Law Enforcement Teacher Education and Training Welding
Academic Courses Courses with TSI (Test Score) Requirements: English 1301-1302 Government 2305 and Economics 2301 US History 1301-1302 Psychology 2301 and Speech 1311 Students may use one of the following: EOC English II Level 2* ACT: English 19, Math 19, Composite 23 SAT: English 500, Math 500, Composite 1070 PSAT: English 50, Math 50, Composite 107 If your student does not have the required scores, he/she must take the TSI Pre- Assessment online BEFORE taking the actual TSI Assessment at Grayson County College Testing Center to see if he/she may qualify for College Classes. Recommendations for taking the academic college courses: Students need to be on the Distinguished Graduation Plan Students need to have taken PAP/AP courses to prepare for the rigor. GPA of 3.0 or higher

Technical Courses Technical Courses that DO NOT require TSI (Testing Scores): Cosmetology Computer Maintenance Culinary Arts HVAC-Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning Welding Recommendations for taking the technical college courses: Make sure that you have enough elective credits for the graduation plan you are on. If you do not have enough other elective courses, you will not received approval to take the courses. Students must be self-disciplined and be willing to spend time on homework and studying outside of school.
TSI Testing If you need to take the TSI test for your College Entrance test, you may use ONE school day to do so. However, you must have already completed the online Pre-Assessment Test and scheduled a time with the GCC Testing Center. The ONE day missed will not count against PHS test exemptions IF you submit proof of your TSI Test results to the PHS office. In addition, there are testing dates during the summer, but these seats fill fast. Fee-Online Registration $28.50 Fee- In person at GCC Business Office $25.00
Scheduling Seniors will be able to take academic and technical courses. However, due to technical course offerings at 1:00 pm the academic courses will be on-line and during the school day. The student will be assigned to 2 PHS class periods for the online English and Government course(s). Only seniors taking the technical courses on the Grayson campus will be allowed to enroll in the on-line academic courses.
For example: Scheduling If a senior is only taking Academic Courses English 1301-1302 with Government 2305/Economics 2301, he/she will be enrolled in the courses on the Grayson campus at 1:00 pm Mon-Thurs. Students will not be enrolled in the On-Line Academic Courses English 1301-1302 with Government 2305/Economics 2301 UNLESS, they take Technical Courses on the Grayson campus at 1:00 pm Mon-Thurs.
Scheduling If you take the 1:00 pm course offerings at Grayson, you will be exempt from attending 212. However, junior s will be required to return to PHS for 9 th period. If 9 th period attendance becomes an issue you may lose your dual credit privilege.
Grades If a student fails a course in the fall, they will not be enrolled in dual credit for the spring. For a course to qualify for an advanced measure (Distinguished), the student must make a 80 or higher. PHS requires a 70 or higher for credit. GCC requires a 60 or higher for credit. If a student elects to drop a dual credit course prior to the semester, you will be placed in a high school course and the dual credit grade (passing or failing) will transfer to your new course.
Cost and Payments The approximate cost for a 3 hour course is $250.00 This does not include books or misc material. Students must register and pay for courses prior to PHS schedule pick-up in August to have the GCC Dual Credit Courses listed on the PHS schedule. Financial Aid Students that qualify for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program may request a tuition fee waiver. NEW THIS YEAR. Parents/Guardians of the dual credit student that request a tuition waiver must register with FAFSA. More on this to come
Transportation If you choose to take dual credit courses, you must provide your own transportation. In addition, there is a GCC parking registration fee.

Workload Academic Courses: Students are required to complete assignments outside of class. Very seldom is late work accepted. If you are involved in UIL activities, you may want to consider the time you have to successfully complete the dual credit course work. These are college classes and you are required to meet the Grayson Instructor s guidelines. Technical Courses: Clinical, off-campus and out of school commitments.
FERPA Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act GCC instructors consider your student a college student. They will not discuss your students grades, attendance, etc. However, when the Grayson registrar sends grades to the high school the grades will be posted on report cards and transcripts. The counselor can discuss students grades with parents once they are officially posted. Campus Connect Account You may access your students information by using their user id and password.
Graduation If your student is taking a dual credit course that qualifies as a required credit for graduation and he/she does not earn the high school credit of 70 or above, he/she will not participate in graduation ceremonies.
Immunizations All students taking dual credit courses are required to have a current Meningitis vaccine prior to enrollment.
