2 CHS Senior Year College Option Program Purpose Statement The Senior Year Option programs provide relevance and help transition seniors to their first year of life after CHS. An alternative to traditional classroom learning, the Senior Year College Option Program provides an actual college experience to seniors who are close to completing their graduation requirements. Prerequisite: In addition to specific guidelines for The Montclair State University Program or Passaic Community College Program to qualify for participation students must possess: 1. A passing score on the English and Math parts of the HSPA. 2. Success in academics with a program appropriate overall GPA Experience of a college class is invaluable past program participants have reported feeling ten steps ahead of their freshman counterparts.

3 Specific Qualifying Guidelines for Students at Montclair State (SAMS) Student admission requirements/ factors considered for admission: Features: Benefits: 85 average or better GPA, in CP, Honors, or AP classes in junior year. No Category 3 suspensions, disorderly conduct, disruptive behavior incidents, acts of vandalism, or violence, or inordinate unexplained attendance issues during the junior year. Guidance counselor recommendation. Application with writing sample, and interview. During the school year students enroll in 3 (minimum) or 4 introductory level classes (MSU General Education classes). The Clifton Board of Education funds 40% of the participating student s MSU tuition. MSU waives all student fees. Afternoon, night and weekend classes available to students who may want to remain on campus of CHS for later period classes. A CHS-MSU shuttle bus is available for students who take classes within the CHS school day but do not have private transportation (for 11:30 or 1:00 MSU classes). Students are dismissed earlier from school than full day students. Students earn up to 12 college credits (with a grade of C or better). Grades are AP weighted at CHS for class ranking.

4 Specific Qualifying Guidelines for CHS Students at Passaic Community College Student admission requirements/ factors considered for admission: Features: Benefits: 80 overall average or better GPA, in the junior year. No Category 3 suspensions, disorderly conduct, disruptive behavior incidents, acts of vandalism, or violence, or inordinate unexplained attendance issues during the junior year. Application with writing sample, interview. Guidance counselor recommendation. Students can elect either the EMT program or criminal justice studies. The Clifton Board of Education funds 40% of the student s PCCC tuition. PCCC waives all student fees. Classes are held on the CHS campus after normal CHS school hours. Student must arrange their own transportation. Students are dismissed earlier from school than full day students. Students earn real college credit up to 12 credits (with a grade of C or better). Grades are weighted at CHS as AP grades for class ranking.

5 EMT Training at PCCC Students receive 10 CHS credits and 8 college credits at an approximate cost of $500 (after a 40% BOE subsidy). This class is given AP weight for GPA ranking. Students participate in a state-certified, highly rigorous, 120-hour program at the Public Safety Academy in Wayne, a state-of-the-art facility. Successful students finish the program, pass a state or national certification exam, and are fully employable or eligible to serve as EMT volunteers. Students elect to attend either the fall or spring semester. Classes are offered from 12:30 2:45 pm on a MWFS schedule (This is subject to change). Classes are offered in either the fall or spring semester.

6 Passaic Community College Criminal Justice Studies Classes offered through Passaic County Community College but held at the CHS campus after normal CHS school hours. Students must attend both Fall and Spring semester criminal justice courses. Course section availability varies depending upon overall enrollment. Presently classes meet one afternoon per week on Monday, Wednesdays or Thursdays from approximately 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Fall Course Offering Introduction to Criminal Justice CJ 101 This is an introductory course in criminal justice, providing an overview of the criminal justice system and the three interrelated, responsive agencies that compose it: the police, the courts, and the correction system. Spring Course Offering Criminology CJ 208* This course is involved with the interdisciplinary study of the nature of crime, crime prevention, theories on the causes of crime and delinquency, current social problems and their relevance to crime, and society's approach to the rehabilitation of the criminal offender. *Criminology requires CJ 101 as a pre-requisite. Cost - approximately $216 total for both courses. This figure does not include books. Dual Credit Offered For each class you enroll in and successfully complete, you receive 3 college credits and 5 CHS credits toward graduation. All classes are weighted similarly to AP classes.
