7 PSAT 8 for 8 th Grade All 8 th Grade Middle School Students Wednesday, December 9, 2015 PSAT 8 is the first step on the College Board series of exams for high school and college. Measures skills students need to be on track for college success Establishes a baseline for college and career readiness for students as they enter high school. Tools are available after exam for students to begin college and scholarship searches.

23 Student and Parent College Preparation Checklist Parents: Take an active role in assisting your child with these important activities. 9 th Grade 10 th Grade 11 th Grade 12 th Grade Fall *Submit summer coursework grades. *Review transcripts and credits with counselor. *Attend College and Career Night and speak with college business representatives. * Investigate colleges and careers through interest surveys and questionnaires. *Enroll in rigorous and challenging courses. *Read widely, write frequently and develop problem solving skills. *Become involved with extracurricular activities and take leadership roles. *Volunteer for community events and activities. *Review your four year graduation plan in with your counselor. *Create a Resume and add all activities into a College Portfolio. *Ask for extra help in subjects where support is needed. *Attend tutoring sessions. *Develop good study habits. *Attend classes each day to keep up with assignments. *Study hard and keep grades as high as possible. *Note: Grades go on the permanent transcript and are reviewed by universities. *Attend PSAT Study Sessions *Take PSAT very seriously and do the best possible. Scores could qualify you for scholarships. *Take the PSAT October 14, *After taking the PSAT, go to My College QuickStart for more college information. Pay close attention to AP Potential based on PSAT scores. *Determine a date to take the SAT and ACT in the Spring. Note the registration deadline. *Take the TSI Exam if needed. *Continue to keep your grades high. *Attend classes each day to keep up with assignments. *Meet with your counselor to review credits, grades, and test scores. *Meet with the college specialist to discuss the college process. *Complete the Apply Texas Application and other applications early. *Note application and Scholarship deadlines in your Senior Calendar. *Submit Early Decision applications on time. *Schedule the SAT/ACT if needed. Note registration deadlines. *Take the TSI exam if necessary. *Schedule a meeting with your counselor & parents to review your graduation status. *Schedule a meeting with the college specialist to discuss the college process.

Continue research as to location, cost, scholarships, and major area of study. *Review Education plan and graduation requirements. *Make occupation and postsecondary education plans. *Learn about the kind of education you will need to pursue the occupations; technical school, two-year college, or four-year college/university that fits your plan. *Request Letters of Recommendation early. *Create a Senior Calendar with deadlines for admissions, scholarships, and financial aid. *Submit at least five college/university applications. *Apply for FAFSA pin.
