About the event LEADING A PEOPLE BUSINESS IN CHALLENGING TIMES. Australia has without doubt felt the brunt of the economic crisis and these precarious conditions have inevitably flowed through to the legal industry. It is challenging times that face all law firm leaders and knowing how to navigate through these tough waters is a necessity rather than an option. The legal market is changing and maturing, and business is becoming more competitive than ever. Law firms globally are changing their approach and searching for new ways to practice within these new parameters. In the words of John.F.Kennedy change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future - this resonates true for law firms where agility and innovation will be a key driver to moving forward. The Managing Partners Forum has significantly progressed to be the key event that Managing Partners bookmark to attend each year. Now in its seventh year its momentum and significance has grown with close to one hundred delegates attending from law firms across Australia and New Zealand. The Forum s goal is to offer a leading-edge programme which reflects this changing legal landscape and covers the issues that will help legal leaders develop their professional skills and sustain and grow their firms during these turbulent times. The event offers an innovative programme, vibrant panel discussions and roundtables and its interactive approach is an ideal setting for the frank exchange of ideas amongst the leaders of law firms from the top and mid-tier sector. Throughout the past seven years, Chilli IQ has continued to raise the bar, delivering a conference programme of quality, relevance and value for the delegates. With the constructive input of the Advisory Panel, the Managing Partners Forum for 2014 will again be the foremost event for learning, networking and interacting with peers. These final words are from one of the attending managing partners of last year s event every year this is a worthwhile conference with high quality content and valuable sharing of ideas. Congratulations to the Chilli Team for yet another outstanding Managing Partners Forum. A high quality future focussed program with appropriate diversity and time efficient management. COO/ Cooper Grace Ward

In order to create competitive advantage and deliver superior financial returns, law firms need to understand and adapt to the changing ecosystem in which they now live, as well as forecasting what that ecosystem will look like 10 or more years down the road; long term vision and strategy have therefore never been more important for law firms. Canadian legal futurist, Mitch Kowalski, adopts a risk management perspective to examine the challenges law firms face now and in the future - then uses this perspective to suggest a provocative model for the successful law firm of 2025. Mitch Kowalski Legal Futurist, Author, Adviser & Lawyer CANADA 10.00-10.45 Session 2 Leading change in professional services firms - not for the faint hearted! No doubt you have heard an increasingly loud refrain echoing within the halls of professional services firms: to thrive in the future, firms must adapt significantly so as to remain relevant to their clients, their people and to differentiate themselves from their competitors. Leading adaptive change within professional services firms is not for the faint hearted and requires firm leaders to hone particular mindsets and skills which go well beyond their traditional technical expertise. Robyne explores what differentiates this type of adaptive change from incremental change and outlines the critical responsibilities that leaders must shoulder to be effective.
