Abut PayPal Website Payments Pr & Express Checkut What is Website Payments Pr? Website Payments Pr (WPP) is an all-in-ne payment slutin that is cmprised f tw cmpnents: Express Checkut (Pay by PayPal) Express Checkut is similar t PayPal standard, in that the custmer leaves yur site t pay with PayPal and des nt have t pay using a credit card (e.g. custmers may pay using the funds that already exist in their PayPal accunts). The difference between Express Checkut and PayPal Payments Standard is that with Express Checkut the custmer by-passes the lgin/registratin prcess that is part f PrductCart. With PayPal Standard, the custmer leaves yur Web stre at the payment step, after registering r lgging in, and after selecting shipping and ther checkut ptins. With Express Checkut, the custmer leaves yur stre at the time f checking ut. This means that custmers can use their PayPal accunt t checkut n different stres, withut having t register with each stre. Express Checkut is available in cnjunctin with Direct Payment, but can be used as a stand alne slutin. This means that yu can activate Express Checkut even if yu are nt using the Direct Payments prtin f Website Payments Pr. This scenari ccurs when yu are already using anther payment system fr taking credit card payments n yur Web site (i.e. anther payment gateway). Express Checkut buttns appear n yur checkut page and yur small shpping cart (if yu use ne in yur stre s graphical interface). See this sectin fr a graphical example. Direct Payment (Pay with credit card) Direct Payment is a Nn-PayPal Branded payment ptin and will appear t yur custmers as a standard credit card payment page, within yur stre. That is: custmer will nt leave yur stre t pay. In PrductCart, yu can simply name this payment ptin Credit Cards (r alike). There is n reference t PayPal n the payment page, and custmers never leave yur stre t be taken t the PayPal Web site. They remain n yur stre fr the entire checkut prcess. Please nte that if yu enable Direct Payment, PayPal Express Checkut will be enabled as well. The tw payment ptins are part f the same payment system. The cmbinatin f these tw payment ptins makes up PayPal Website Payments Pr. Apprval takes between 24 and 48 hurs. e) Once apprved, accept the Pr billing agreement. Check the Getting Started sectin n the upper left f yur accunt verview page. 3) Cnfigure yur accunt t allw PrductCart t cmmunicate with PayPal: a) Obtain yur API Credentials 2. Yu will use this infrmatin when activating Website Payments Pr in yur PrductCart Cntrl Panel. This infrmatin will authenticate yur stre when it cmmunicates payment infrmatin with PayPal. Dn t perfrm bth at the same time. 4) Activate PayPal Website Payments Pr in the PrductCart Cntrl Panel. Ensure that yur stre is using the latest versin f PrductCart. a) Yu must be running PrductCart v3.1 r abve i) If yu are running an earlier versin, use the Check fr Updates feature in the PrductCart Cntrl Panel s start page t dwnlad the next available update. 2 API stands fr Applicatin Prgramming Interface. It s a technical term t define the set f tls that allw an applicatin t cmmunicate with the utside wrld. In this case, the PayPal API is a set f tls that allw thirdparty applicatins such as PrductCart t submit payment infrmatin t PayPal. The fllwing sectins describes all the ptins that are shwn t yu when yu activate PayPal Website Payments Pr in the PrductCart Cntrl Panel. PrductCart Cntrl Panel Settings fr WPP Select Website Payments Pr frm the PayPal payment ptins presented t yu. The fllwing settings apply t bth Express Checkut and Website Payments Pr. The infrmatin that yu will be entering is yur API Credentials, which yu btained frm the PayPal Web site as described in the previus sectin. API Accunt Name: This is the Username prtin f yur API Credentials, mentined abve. Passwrd: This is the Passwrd prtin f yur API Credentials. API Signature: This is the third prtin f yur API Credentials. Currency: This is the 3 digit currency cde that crrespnds t yur lcal currency (e.g. USD fr the United States). Select yur currency frm drpdwn menu. Transactin Type: Tells PayPal hw yu want t btain payment. Authrizatin (Recmmended) indicates that the transactin is nly authrized, but nt settled. The payment will be captured at a later time. Sale indicates that authrizatin and capture ccur at the same time. The sale is final. Enable Test Mde: Yu can enable r disable test mde. Nte that if the Website Payments Pr is in test mde, the strefrnt will autmatically fill in a randm credit card number accrding t the card type selected. See belw fr mre infrmatin abut using PayPal WPP in Test Mde. Prcessing Fee: Yu can chse whether t charge an additinal transactin fee using the Prcessing Fee field. The fee can be either a flat charge r a percentage f the ttal rder amunt. Payment Name: Yu can change the descriptin that is shwn t yur custmers during checkut. Fr example, yu culd change Credit Card t Visa/MasterCard. Prcess Order when they are placed: We recmmend that yu set yur Transactin Type t Authrizatin and that yu DO NOT prcess rders when they are placed. This gives yu time t review each rder t ensure that it is accurate and legitimate, and then capture the funds when the shipment is ready. Enable Credit Card Security Cde: Every Credit Card has a 3 r 4 digit CVV Cde (als knwn as CVV2), which is a security cde designed fr yur safety and security. Check the bx abve and custmers are required t enter their Credit Card's CVV Cde. Nte: Yu must als enable CVV in yur PayPal Accunt. When rders are placed, set the payment status t: Fr PayPal Website Payments Pr this ptin shuld always be Default. Testing Website Payments Pr: using the Sandbx T test yur PayPal WPP settings yu will need a test accunt, which is referred t as a sandbx accunt. In a nutshell, PayPal has created a parallel, testing envirnment where yu can sign up fr a Business accunt and prcess transactins as if yu were perating in the real wrld. Hwever, all transactins are fictitius. Since this is a parallel testing envirnment, yu need t repeat the steps that yu perfrmed with yur real PayPal Business accunt. 1. Sign up fr a test accunt in the same way as yu did fr yur real ne. The nly difference is that yu will use this signup page: https://develper.paypal.cm/ 2. Yu will need ne sandbx business accunt fr yur test stre and ne fr yur test user. This is because yu can nt buy frm yurself. 3. Obtain API Credentials fr yur sandbx business accunt. Fr security reasns, make sure that they are different frm yur real API Credentials. 4. Enter these credentials in yur PrductCart Cntrl Panel when using Test Mde, as explained belw. Switching between Test and Live Mde Lg int the PrductCart Cntrl Panel and select Payments > View/Mdify Payment Optins. Under PayPal Payment Optins select mdify Website Payments Pr, r Express Checkut. There is a checkbx called Test Mde that allws yu t easily switch between live and test (sandbx) mde. Since yu are using a sphisticated shpping cart like PrductCart, PayPal s Buy Nw buttns are nt needed and shuld nt be used. Other questins abut Express Checkut The fllwing questins apply t Express Checkut. Since Express Checkut is an alternative checkut prcess that bypasses the default checkut steps that are part f a PrductCart-pwered stre, there are sme features that wrk differently cmpared t a standard checkut. When custmers checkut using PayPal Express Checkut 1. will my stre s shipping ptins be visible t them? Yes. All shipping ptins available in PrductCart will wrk with PayPal Express Checkut. 2. will my Gift Certificates and cupns wrk? Yes. All yur cupns and Gift Certificates will functin nrmally. Currently, the nly limitatin is that PrductCart cannt send yur discunt details t PayPal when discunts are invlved. The PayPal system des nt accept discunted (negative value) line items. S there will be n line item explaining what kind f discunt/cupn was applied. 3. will quantity discunts wrk? Yes, PayPal allws PrductCart t calculate the price. Currently, the nly limitatin is that PrductCart can nt send yur item details t PayPal when Categry Quantity Discunts are invlved. The PayPal system des nt accept discunted (negative value) line items. Prduct Quantity Discunts are applied t the unit price and therefre can be itemized in the PayPal system. 4. hw can I cntact the custmer that placed the rder? When a custmer registers with Express Checkut, PayPal sends limited infrmatin t yur stre fr rder prcessing 3. Using the infrmatin prvided, PrductCart will create a custmer accunt s it can recrd the rder in yur stre database. A randm passwrd will be generated if the custmer pts-ut f creating their wn passwrd. With Express Checkut passwrd selectin cannt be mandatry. Custmers that rdered using Express Checkut will be able t lg int their accunt at yur PrductCart-pwered stre with the passwrd they chse at checkut, r by requesting the randm passwrd via the Passwrd Reminder tl (e.g. they need t lg int their accunt t dwnlad an electrnic prduct purchased n yur stre). 5. Will custmers return t my stre after cmpleting the checkut prcess? Yes. When they use Express Checkut, they end up back n yur stre at the end f the checkut prcess. S all custmers will view yur stre s Order Cmplete page. When custmers pay by credit card (Direct Payment), they never leave yur stre. 3 When custmers checkut using Express Checkut, they select the payment methd that they wish t use after lgging int their Express Checkut accunt n the PayPal Web site. This means that the billing infrmatin is nt available t yur stre. When a custmer recrd is created by PrductCart as the rder is placed, the shipping address is used t fill in the custmer s billing infrmatin. Als nte that PayPal des nt require the custmer t enter a phne number when checking ut. This is an ptin in yur PayPal Settings. Thus, if yu have nt cnfigured this ptin a phne number may nt be available t yu. Nte, yu can als enfrce the phne number within PrductCart. Prcessing PayPal rders in PrductCart Synchrnizatin between PrductCart and PayPal The steps invlved in the rder fulfillment prcess are nearly identical when rders are placed using PayPal as they are when rders are placed using anther payment ptin available in yur PrductCartpwered stre. Assuming that yu setup PayPal t authrize rders, but nt t charge them autmatically (recmmended 4 ), when an rder is placed using PayPal: The rder status is pending The payment status is authrized. PayPal rders have nt been captured. They have been authrized, and they will be charged by yu after yu review them. This is true unless yu setup yur PayPal accunt t Authrize & Capture, which it is nt recmmended. Orders placed with PayPal appear in PrductCart just like ther rders. After reviewing the rder, yu will need t capture it. When yu d, yu are prcessing the rder as far as PrductCart is cncerned, s the rder status is changed t prcessed. The payment is als captured by PayPal at this time and will be settled at the end f the day. Yu can ship the rder just like yu d with any ther rder. Yu can als Vid an rder and/r Refund the custmer. When yu d, PayPal is ntified and the custmer s accunt is credited accrdingly. Mst actins taken in yur PayPal administratin area and/r in yur PrductCart Cntrl Panel are sent t the ther system s that they remain always up-t-date. Fr example, yu can capture an rder n either side, which means that the rder is prcessed by PrductCart and funds are captured by PayPal. The nly exceptin t this is the Reset Order Status feature in the PrductCart Cntrl Panel. This sectin f the Order Details page allws the stre administratin t reset the rder status. The page cntains a reminder that actins taken there d nt trigger any actin n the PayPal side. Hw lng des it take t receive the funds? Depending n hw yu set up yur PayPal preferences, rders will be either Authrized (recmmended) r Authrized & Captured when they are placed. If rders are authrized, yu will need t capture them, which is dne at the time an rder is prcessed. 4 It is always recmmended that yu d nt charge & prcess rders in real time. Yu can authrize them in real time, but yu shuld charge them at a later time, after yu hare reviewed the rders fr accuracy and legitimacy.
