Seriusly... test it ut. :) Basics That Yu Will Need What are the system requirements t view the (in)rl vides? Adbe Flash Player 8 r higher. If yu d nt have it, yu can dwnlad it frm the Adbe website here: http://www.adbe.cm/g/getflashplayer. Micrsft Windws 2000 r higher including the latest updates, r Mac OS X A bradband cnnectin preferably with 700+ Kbps fr cntinuus playback. Chances are that a dialup cnnectin will be chppy and rebuffer quite frequently, r may nt wrk at all. Trubleshting Why is my vide chppy and have t rebuffer frequently? Yur internet cnnectin is prbably nt fast enugh t keep up with the bit rate f vide yu are watching. Yu can select a lwer bit rate frm the player's menu sectin. If yu are already n the lwest pssible bit rate, please clse all ther running applicatins. Why isn't any vide shwing up? This usually means that yu d nt have the needed versin f the Flash player installed n yur cmputer. Please dwnlad the latest versin, install it, restart yur web brwser and try it again. Why is my vide player stuck n "Buffering 0%"? This happens when a vide is nt yet prpagated t the Akamai Cntent Delivery Netwrk. Please try again in a few minutes. Why can I hear the audi but nt see the vide? This ccurs when the speed f yur Internet cnnectin is slwer than the bit rate f the vide clip yu are watching and can be caused by either (a) yur selecting f a bit rate fr the vide clip that is t high fr yur Internet cnnectin r (b) Internet traffic cngestin reduces the speed f yur cnnectin belw what it shuld be (fr example, yu have a high speed DSL r cable mdem cnnectin t the Internet, but due t Internet cngestin r shared usage, the effective speed f yur Internet cnnectin is actually clser t a 56kbs dial up cnnectin). General Questins and Helpful Tips Hw d I cnnect my laptp t a TV r Prjectr? Yu just need t find the right cable t fit frm yur laptp t the TV r prjectr that yu wuld like t use. (This will in mst cases require an adapter as well as a cable.) There are lts f different cnnectrs/adapters, s just make sure yu have the right ne fr yur equipment and test it well in advance f the meetup! Here are sme resurces t help yu in the prcess. If yu re feeling thrifty and have smene that can help yu (perhaps smene like the knwn techy in yur family ;) ), this is a great site and resurce that sells the cables and adapters that yu wuld need at a fractin f the cst f retailers: Mnprice.cm Here is als a helpful chart that can help yu figure ut which cable and adaptr yu need. It can be verwhelming at first glance, but just match the shape f the prt n yur laptp with the far left clumn n this chart as well as the shape f yur TV prt with the tp rw f the chart. Find where thse
tw intersect n the chart, and that s the adaptr and/r cable yu will need. With the prices frm the site abve, yu shuld easily be able t get setup fr under $10. It is easy t select the wrng vide transfer cable, leaving yu ut in the cld when it cmes time t present. T be n the safe side, yu can bring yur cmputer with yu if yu g t an electrnics retailer t purchase yur cable. Smene there shuld be able t understand exactly what yu need. Test the audi! Unless yu are cnnecting an HDMI prt t an HDMI prt, which has the audi supprt built int the media system, yu will need a surce f audi ther than yur laptp speakers. N ne will be able t hear yur laptp's tiny speakers! Yu can just use external cmputer speakers (fr a hme setting) and plug them int yur headphne jack n yur laptp. There are ways t get the audi t cme thrugh yur TV r hme theater system. If yu have ever plugged in yur ipd r phne t yur speakers using a headphne plug, use that. (Typically that s this cable.) Als nte that sme f the newest Macs can supprt audi thrugh yur TV r hme theater system withut an extra cable if yu cnnect yur visual and audi via the mini display prt t HDMI cable. The biggest thing is t TEST at least a cuple weeks befre the event! (With technlgy, there are always variables, s PLEASE test befrehand!) I m shwing this at my church - what d I need t tell the technical team? Send them this dcument, fr starters. Als, yu need t make sure that yu have an Internet cnnectin n the cmputer that is cnnected t the prjectr screen yu ll be using. Yu shuld send them the test link that we ll share with yu n Friday April 20 and make sure that yu are able t play the vide n the prjectr screen. Yu ll want t check and make sure that bth the audi and vide is wrking prperly.
Even thugh I have all the system requirements, why can I nt see r hear any vides? 1. If yu launch the webcast n Windws 98 while ther audi applicatins - - including, but nt limited t mp3 players - - are running, yu may have truble hearing a vide's sund. If this is the case, please clse yur brwser and all running audi applicatins. Restart yur brwser and return t the vide. 2. If yu are behind a firewall, please make sure that yu can get t ppular sites n the Internet like Ggle. If there is n prblem getting t the sites like Ggle, then yu may have certain prts lcked dwn n yur firewall. If yu cannt cnnect t ther ppular websites, please verify that yur firewall settings are cnfigured crrectly. If this des nt slve the prblem, there may be a prblem with yur cnnectin t the Internet. We recmmend that yu cntact yur service prvider. Can I use dial- up Internet access? The quality f the vide clip yu are watching mainly depends n tw factrs: (a) the speed f yur Internet cnnectin and (b) the bit rate (speed) f the vide clip. The faster the bit rate f the vide clip, the better the quality. Hwever, the speed f yur Internet cnnectin will limit which vide clip bit rate that yu can watch. Fr example, if yu nly have a 56kbs (dial- up) cnnectin t the Internet, the highest vide clip bit rate that yu will be able t watch will be 56kbs r less (mst likely less, as the majrity f dial- up cnnectins nly get speeds f 28kbs r less due t phne line issues). If yu try t watch a vide clip with a bit rate f 300kbs ver a dial up cnnectin, the vide will nt play. That is why we ffer multiple bit rates fr each vide clip. Each bit rate is ptimized fr the different types f Internet cnnectins available (Dial- up/dsl/cable Mdem/T1). As yu can see, it is very imprtant that yu select the prper vide clip bit rate fr yur Internet cnnectin. Fr the best viewing experience, we recmmend a high speed Internet cnnectin such as DSL r Cable Mdem. It is imprtant t nte that even if yu have a high- speed (DSL/ Cable Mdem/ T1), Internet traffic cngestin affects yur cnnectin speed and/r vide perfrmance. Yu will get slwer r faster speeds at different times depending n peak r ff- peak use hurs. Yu may als get slwer speeds during the mrning and afternn, but faster speeds late at night when fewer peple are nline. Als, streaming quality decreases when multiple peple share the same Internet cnnectin (e.g. at wrk r n a hme netwrk). A dial- up cnnectin is nt recmmended because ur vide streams at 300 r 650 kbps, and a dial- up Internet cnnectin is nly 56 kbps r slwer. We recmmend yu have a minimum Internet cnnectin f at least 700 kbps t enjy ur service. Can I dwnlad vides t my cmputer? Unfrtunately, this ptin is nt available. The vide files are huge and t large t reasnably uplad r dwnlad thrugh the Internet.
