TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment General Assessment Information Assessment strategy The assessment requirements for each module generally include In-class assessment tasks that are completed during training and then workplace assessment tasks which generally involve 1 2 3 Short answer questions Specific tasks Third party reference The tasks are practical and provide you with an opportunity to try out the knowledge and skills gained during training. General Assessment Information TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Third party reference What is the third party reference? The third party reference is a short questionnaire that a suitable third party referee should complete. By completing the third party reference questionnaire, your referee will: verify authenticity of the evidence you provide (i.e. to verify that you not someone else completed the required assessment tasks) make general comments about the degree to which the assessment tasks you complete reflect the way you typically approach this type of work. Selecting a third party referee Your third party referee should have expertise in either training or assessment and/or subject matter expertise. An appropriate referee may be: (preferred) a supervisor (or equivalent) from your current workplace, OR a customer, a mentor, or someone who may or may not work with you. They must not be related to you and they must be able to make general comments about the work you have completed for the assessment. If you have any trouble identifying a suitable third party referee, discuss your concerns with your educator/assessor. We will be able to work something out. Detailed instructions for the third party referee Detailed instructions for the third party referee are found in the assessment booklet for each module. More questions? If you or the third party referee have any questions about the third party reference, either ask your assessor or contact FPNSW. We will be happy to help. 8 Version 1.0 Jan 2011 FPNSW & Blackwater Projects

TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment General Assessment Information The assessment process at a glance The flow chart below summarises how assessments of TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment are administered. 1. Complete all required assessment tasks, compile your portfolio of evidence and submit to FPNSW. 2. FPNSW will forward your portfolio to your assessor. 3. Your assessor will briefly look through your portfolio to ensure that: a. the cover sheet (including candidate declaration) has been completed b. your portfolio is logically organised and clearly presented. If the portfolio IS well organised If the portfolio IS NOT well organised 4. Your assessor will review and evaluate the evidence provided in your portfolio. If all evidence is of a SATISFACTORY standard If any evidence is of a NOT YET SATISFACTORY standard The assessment result is COMPETENT The assessment result will be RESUBMIT or NOT YET COMPETENT (NYC) In this case, relax! You may be re-assessed, and there is plenty of support available. 5. Your assessor will provide you with an assessment result and feedback. If you achieve a resubmit or NYC result then a recommended action plan to improve the quality of the portfolio or achieve a competent result will also be provided. 6. Your portfolio will be returned to you if you have provided a stamped self addressed envelope. Version 1.0 Jan 2011 FPNSW & Blackwater Projects 9

General Assessment Information TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Compiling your assessment portfolios Each assessment portfolio you submit must be well-organised, or it will be returned to you. One way to organise it is as follows. The entire assessment booklet on top Do not separate or remove pages Table of Contents Section 1: Your completed tasks In the same order as presented in the assessment booklet Using the same numerical references as in the assessment booklet With specific references to attached documents (e.g. See attachment 1 ) Section 2: Attached documents Clearly labelled (e.g. Attachment 1 ), presented in order example Project: Plan, organise and facilitate learning in the workplace 1. Identify training needs To determine the learning needs, I organised a meeting with the learner (more detail, then ) Please see: Attachment #1 email to the learner to confirm the time/date of our meeting Attachment #2 copy of a completed training needs analysis form that we completed together at our meeting. In the above example, you would clearly label the email as Attachment 1 and the training needs analysis as Attachment 2, and place both attachments in order in the Attached Documents section. Other information 1. Do not submit individual pages of your portfolio in plastic sleeves. Your assessor may want to write comments on your work; plastic sleeves make this hard. 2. Make a back-up copy of your portfolio before submitting it. We cannot be responsible for portfolios lost or damaged in transit. 10 Version 1.0 Jan 2011 FPNSW & Blackwater Projects

TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment General Assessment Information Frequently asked questions 1. What is my workplace assessment tasks deadline? Assessments for each module should be submitted 6 (six) months after the conclusion of training for that module. Please submit your completed tasks to: Course Co-ordinator Professional Education Family Planning NSW 328-336 Liverpool Rd Ashfield 2131 NSW 2. What if I can t submit my completed assessment tasks by the deadline? The sooner you complete your assessment tasks after the training, the easier it will be to complete them; but we know how busy life can get, and are happy to offer a reasonable extension if needed. Please follow the steps outlined in the extension request section of the Participant Handbook. 3. May I use work previously completed as the evidence for assigned assessment tasks? Yes, you may use work previously completed as the evidence for assigned assessment tasks, provided: the work was completed recently (i.e. within the past 12 months or so), you can provide all the required evidence listed in the assessment task, and the evidence is of a satisfactory standard (see the grey guidance notes in the evidence required section of the assessment task). Please discuss your options with your educator/assessor. 4. I m not currently working as a trainer/assessor. How can I complete the projects? Relax! Many candidates are in your situation, and we are very experienced in helping our participants create real or simulated ( realistic ) opportunities to complete assessments. Some options include: Your educator/assessor can work with you to identify suitable scenarios you can base assessment tasks on. Discuss any of your concerns with them. FPNSW can provide support in the form of access to a training venue, technical equipment and an assessor if you do not have a workplace to complete the assessment tasks. Version 1.0 Jan 2011 FPNSW & Blackwater Projects 11

General Assessment Information TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment 5. I m not sure I can complete the assessment tasks as described. Do you offer any flexibility? Yes, we re flexible! If it would help make the assessment more accessible to you, we re able to make a reasonable adjustment to the assessment process. We can t change the assessment requirements but we can change how you complete the assessment tasks. Please discuss your options with your assessor. 6. What are the possible assessment results? Result Code What this result means Competent C Celebrate! You have earned a Statement of Attainment for each unit of competency assessed. Resubmit R Most tasks have been completed to a satisfactory standard, but better quality evidence and/or additional evidence is needed before a competent result may be awarded. Remember that we are not here to fail you our intent is to keep working with you until you achieve competency. 7. Will my assessment records be kept confidential? Yes! Assessment records are stored securely. The only people allowed to access your records are FPNSW s assessment administration staff, your assessor, and you. We will not give anyone else information about your assessment records without your written permission. 8. Will I get my portfolio back once the assessment has been completed? Please ensure that the envelope has sufficient postage. OR if you do not provide a self-addressed stamped envelope, and if we cannot contact you to pick up your portfolio in person, we will retain your portfolio for 3 (three) months then reserve the right to dispose of it in a confidential manner. 9. What if I disagree with the assessment result? If you disagree with your assessment result, you have the right to appeal the decision. Please follow the process listed below 1. Discuss your concerns with your assessor. If you do not arrive at a mutually beneficial solution you can contact FPNSW and then... 2.
