Mved/Secnded That the Minutes f the Campus and Facilities Develpment Subcmmittee meeting held n March 17, 2015 be apprved. 4. Recmmendatin f the CFDS 2015-2016 Wrk Plan Dcumentatin fr this item was circulated with the Agenda. Getachew Assefa presented this item. The draft 2015-2016 CFDS Wrk Plan has several items spanning int December, but the CFDS has n meeting scheduled in that mnth. The Wrk Plan will be revised t address this. The item Design Guidelines Review was added t the Wrk Plan in January The item Lng Range Develpment Plan was added t the Wrk Plan in March and April Mved/Secnded That the Campus and Facilities Develpment Subcmmittee (CFDS) recmmend that the Academic Planning and Pririties Cmmittee apprve the CFDS Wrk Plan fr the 2015-2016 academic year, as set ut in the dcument prvided t the Cmmittee, and with the requested amendments. 5. Wayfinding Exterir Prgram Phase 1 Plan Dcumentatin fr this item was circulated with the Agenda. presented this item. Jane Ferrabee, University Architect, The University s Wayfinding Prgram Guidelines were apprved by the Executive Leadership Team sme time ag. The prgram s first phase, exterir wayfinding installatins, are currently underway. The exterir wayfinding installatins will include campus maps, finger psts, and building identificatin blades. There will be light pst banners, which can be changed fr special events (e.g. the 2016 Cngress f the Humanities and Scial Sciences) in accrdance with guidelines. Future exterir wayfinding installatins will include parking directinals and labelling, and

The members f the CFDS ffered feedback n the varying needs f units fr useful signage, and suggested that blder branding at the campus peripheries shuld be cnsidered In respnse t a questin, it was stated that secndary exterir signage fr sme shared buildings will be taken under cnsideratin, in rder t assist persns in lcating destinatins such as Faculty ffices A member reprted that general electrnic map r GPS searches, such as fr University f Calgary, smetimes result in less than helpful results (e.g. pinpinting a prfessr s ffice rather than a campus gateway) and Management agreed t lk int this 6. Space Classificatin Types and the Rle f the Design Standards Dcumentatin fr this item was circulated with the Agenda. Jane Ferrabee presented this item. It was requested that the space classificatin types dcument be upladed t the Resurces sectin f the CFDS Desire2Learn site, fr future reference It was reprted that: Space classificatin types are tls/references fr Campus Planning, and are cmmn acrss the prvince which allws institutins t speak cnsistently with the prvincial gvernment Institutins can create their wn classificatin type subheadings, such as fr tracking sensitive space types (e.g. labratries with animals r human subject research spaces) Space classificatin types can be used t generate space use reprts Each space type has an assciated design standard. Over the curse f this meeting year, the CFDS will be asked by Campus Planning t review sme f the University s design standards. If the functin f a space changes (e.g. an ffice space is turned int a gathering space), the University s space classificatin system must be updated. The use f space n campus is als regularly inventried. In cnnectin with a discussin abut csts, the CFDS discussed the imprtance f purchasing quality prducts, such as when purchasing furniture r carpeting, that will last r can be easily maintained given the amunt f use and desire fr lngevity, rather than simply purchasing the cheapest prduct available. It was bserved that, ver time, purchasing the cheapest prduct may nt actually save csts.

Mst prject plans are written t achieve Leadership in Energy & Envirnmental Design (LEED) Gld status, and LEED Silver is the University s current minimum standard. 7. Prject Initiatin Prcess Prpsal Ruting Dcumentatin fr this item was circulated with the Agenda. Jane Ferrabee presented this item. The University has a new prject initiatin prpsal prcess The purpse f the prcess is t ensure that prjects are well cnsidered, and that prper cnsultatin takes place Units nw cmplete a different frm when submitting a wrk request t Archibus, which asks fr details such as drivers, prject scpe, prbable csts, prject schedule and time cnstraints The Prpsal Assessment Grup (PAG), which cnsists f members frm Campus Planning, Prject Management Office, Facilities Management, University Architect, Capital Accunting, EH&S and Infrmatin Technlgies, reviews wrk requests. The request, with any cmments frm the PAG added, is then reviewed by the Campus Strategic Initiatives Grup and the Executive Leadership Team Operatins Cmmittee. Requests becme prjects nce apprved by the Executive Leadership Team. In respnse t a questin, it was reprted that dnr-spnsred prjects will g thrugh the prject initiatin prpsal prcess, but that the Classrm Alteratin Request and Facilities Alteratin Request (CAR-FAR) prgram has its wn prcess 8. CAR-FAR Prjects Reprt Dcumentatin fr this item was circulated with the Agenda. Kevin McQuillan and Bart Becker presented this item. The CFDS discussed the success f the CAR-FAR prgram, which has prvided much-needed classrm and facilities upgrades It was reprted that the CAR-FAR prgram is funded by the Prvst and Vice-President (Facilities), and has a general limit f $400,000 per prject, hwever, units may prvide additinal funds fr prjects ver this limit It was reprted that recently cmpleted CAR-FAR prjects include the renvatin f Administratin Building Lecture Theatres 140 and 142, the replacement f the Aux Gym flr, and the upgrade f the Scial Wrk Graduate Student Lunge. Many ther prjects are nearing cmpletin, such as the cnstructin f the MacEwan Student Centre Wellness and Prayer Spaces, and the upgrade f several theatres and classrms.

It was reprted that: The new graduate and undergraduate residences are nw pen, and landscaping will be cmpleted in the cming weeks The Schulich Schl f Engineering renvatin in n schedule and n budget, and is expected t be cmpleted in September 2016 The Taylr Institute fr Teaching and Learning building will be dne by Christmas, and then cmmissining will begin. The building will pen next Spring. Wrk n the Educatin Twer (including sprinklers, elevatrs, and windws) and the neighburing classrm cmplex will be cmpleted by September 2016 In reply t a questin, it was reprted that the restratin f the MacKimmie Twer is a larger prject, and that the University is having nging discussins with the prvincial gvernment regarding funding fr this prject 10.
