Dear Colleagues, I am very excited and honored to invite you to attend the 36 th Annual Southwestern Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders Education Conference. The theme of this year s conference, Ethical Practice, Quality Care: Perspectives for the Nurse Leader, aligns with the year of ethics with the 2015 release of the American Nurses Association s revised Code of Ethics for Nurses. The provisions of the Code of Ethics strike at the core of what nurses face daily related to patient care and is a guiding document to help them practice at the highest ethical level in stressful and ever changing healthcare environments. As nurse leaders, managing ethical dilemmas in both the clinical and human resource settings are paramount to our success. This year s conference focuses on areas related to the Nursing Code of Ethics with topics around moral distress, incivility, ethical dimensions of practice, the role of the nurse leader in healthcare policy, and the relationship of ethical environments and quality. These topics and the planned speakers will offer an opportunity to provide guidance and tools to all nurses and leaders, regardless of the setting, on how to use the code of ethics to address ethical challenges in your daily work. The backdrop for the conference is again the beautiful Nemacolin Woodlands on September 3-4, 2015. The resort offers a wonderful mix of business and pleasure to enjoy on your two days away. I am very proud of our Education Committee. They have put together an agenda made up of both regional and national speakers. These speakers will leave you with new ways to confront the ethical challenges of healthcare today. In addition to the outstanding speakers, you will also have the opportunity to browse an impressive collection of poster presentations. Once again, we will host a networking event which has grown in popularity over the past few years. The event offers you the perfect opportunity to meet and network with other nurse leaders from across our region. Please note that the reception is included in your registration fee and is open to all attendees. And, finally, I encourage you to stop by the exhibit hall to be greeted by a wide array of healthcare vendors. Let them know how much you appreciate their contributions to this event. I look forward to seeing you at Nemacolin! Sincerely, Sandy Sandra Rader, DNP, MSA, RN, NEA-BC President 2
