Nursing education was an early adopter of online instruction and has used it effectively to educate students, expand faculty capacity, and increase student enrollments to meet the needs of the public. Relatively recent national and state regulatory developments have been confusing, contradictory, and frustrating to many nursing programs, not to mention higher education in general. Gain a better sense of the scope and context of current regulatory problems surrounding distance education across the country, efforts to address challenges, and possible outcomes. Speaker: Jarret Cummings, MPA, Policy Specialist, EDUCAUSE, Washington, DC 3:00-3:30 p.m. 3:30-5:00 p.m. NCSBN Analyzes the Regulatory Issues of Distance Education: Recommendations for the Future In 2012 the Board of Directors at the National Council of State Boards of Nursing convened a Distance Learning Education Committee to address issues that boards of nursing (BONs) and educators face with distance learning programs. Catch a preview of the work of this committee and ascertain helpful ways to engage with your state BONs about distance education issues. Also, benefit from practical suggestions and interactive strategies that will increase student participation in an online format.
