The Reading Hour How many people can we get reading in the same place, at the same time? That is the challenge the Yass Library has set itself as we celebrate The Reading Hour. On Friday 21st August we invite everyone to join us at the Yass Library from 6pm to 7pm for a Read-in. Young, old, singles, families, friends are all welcome at our Read-in. It doesn t matter whether you are reading by yourself or reading aloud to your children everyone will count towards the number of people we have reading in the same place, at the same time! Do you know someone that has never been to the Library? Our Read-in is the perfect opportunity to invite them to visit. Did you know that most people that aren t members of the Library think that it costs money to join? When you invite them to come to our Read-in tell them it s free to join they just need to bring some ID with them. The Read-in is going to be lots of fun and will include lucky door prizes and a free sausage sizzle for everyone that borrows on the night. Everyone can benefit from reading for just an hour a week.

Book Week 2015 Children s Book Week is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading. Each year, schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Each year a selection of books are shortlisted in the following categories Older Readers, Younger readers, Early Childhood, Picture book of the Year, Eve Pownall Award for Information Books. The fiction judging panel for the Picture Book, Early Childhood, Younger Reader and Older Reader categories is made up of eight judges, one elected by each state or territory Branch.
