4 Pre-Induction Activities Marketing Students Favourite Adverts In order to introduce you to the world of marketing, you are required to you are required to collect your three favourite adverts. Your three adverts should fall into the following categories identified below: Printed: Print media has always been a popular advertising option. Advertising products via newspapers or magazines is a common practice. Newspapers and magazines sell the advertising space according to the area occupied by the ad, its position in the publication (front page/middle page, above/below the fold), as well as the readership of the publication. TV: The holy grail of advertising for more than 50 years, television advertising remains the most sought-after mode of advertising even in the 21st century. It reaches the maximum number of target customers, and has a variety of programming schedules which can be effectively used for the insertion of advert content. Social Media: Social media has become a platform that is easily accessible to anyone with internet access. Social media advertising programs usually center on efforts to create content that attracts attention and encourages readers to share it with their social networks. Social media serves as a relatively inexpensive platform for organisations to implement marketing campaigns. Important: All three adverts must be different. Articles can be taken from any reputable news source but this must be identified for each advert. All adverts (or a screen shot) must be printed, along with any reference sources. They must interest you for some reason please write 100 words explaining why they interest you, what was good or bad about them. All three articles must be submitted on Tuesday 22nd September 2015, in an envelope marked with MARKETING and YOUR NAME.
5 Pre-Induction Activities Business in a Global Context: What s in the Business News? In order to introduce you to the world of business and the environment that shapes and determines its performance, you are required to collect three business/business related articles (i.e. things that have or might have a significant impact upon business). These articles will form the basis of the opening few weeks of teaching to your module Business in a Global Context. Your three articles should fall into the three categories identified below: Article One. This article should focus upon a domestic economic/business issue. Domestic refers to the country in which you reside. For all international students this article should be in English and focus on your home country. Article Two. This article should be on an international or global business/economic issue and not be something specific to any one country, but be relevant to many if not all countries or all business. Article Three. The world of business is changing, businesses are constantly facing new threats and opportunities all of the time. For this article you are to identify either a new threat or a new opportunity that business is currently facing or might in the future. Important: All three articles must be different. The articles can be on any aspect of business, so long as it is contemporary. If possible, select articles that interest you, or are in some way important to you. Articles can be taken from any reputable news source, paper based or on-line e.g. The Times, Financial Times, The Guardian, The Independent or All three articles must be printed. Include a separate sheet with details of where you sourced the information, i.e. the newspapers or websites from where you obtained the articles. All three articles must be submitted on [date to be confirmed], in an envelope marked with your name.
