Some figures First review of memoq in late 2009 Using memoq since 2011 (then memoq 4.5) 5 memoq servers: 3 memoq 6.2 servers 2 memoq 2013 R2 servers Licenses across servers: 150 Translator Pro licenses 45 Project Manager licenses 6046 online translation memories 747 online term bases 339 filter configurations 1601 online projects since 1 st January 2013
Four workflows 1. The Project Manager creates an online project containing all the languages Each internal Language Lead assigns the files to members of their team - and/or The Project Manager assigns the files to vendors The final files are exported by the Project Manager or the Language Lead 2. The Project Manager creates a holding online project that is automatically populated through the use of a Content Connector developed by Alpha CRC The files are automatically assigned to Translators and Reviewers The Content Connector is used to export the final files 3. The internal Language Lead creates an online project for their team only The Language Lead or the Reviewer exports the final files 4. An internal Translator creates a local project They translate the files and close the project The Reviewer opens the same project, reviews the files, and exports the final translation
Some rules 1. All of our resources (heavy and light) are stored online on the memoq servers Online resources are used in local projects 2. Make use of Master and WIP (Work In Progress) TMs The WIP TM is a project TM that is used and updated by all the translators working on the project. It is set as the Primary TM. Proofread segments are sent to the Master TM 3. It is imperative to control the resources on the server Filter Configurations are created by designated memoq specialists Naming conventions are vital for Translation Memories and Term bases Translators and Reviewers must belong to the correct user groups in order to benefit from the correct permissions
Licenses 1. Project Managers and memoq Administrators have Project Manager licenses 2. When managing online projects, Language Leads use a Project Manager license 3. When translating/reviewing files belonging to an online project, Language Leads use their Translator Pro license 4. Translator Pro licenses are loaned out to vendors for set periods It is better to work with vendors who have their own license. Lending a license means that it cannot be used by in-house staff
Why we chose memoq User-friendly translation environment => Good translation productivity Internal translators and vendors can work on the same project and have access to the same resources => Increased consistency, reduced TATs Good interoperability (Trados 2007, Trados Studio packages, Star Transit, XLIFF files) memoq supports a wide range of file formats Highly customisable tool (on a global level and at the project level) Use Regex to create filters for unrecognised text-based formats Great Excel support (reference columns, multilingual files) Different length restrictions may be applied on a segment-by-segment basis The price!
Points to consider memoq is a powerful, but complex tool memoq server => In-house specialist(s) memoq is not a Content Management System Do not compare it to WorldServer or TMS memoq is a living, breathing technology Upgrade to new releases of memoq in your own time Learn about new features before upgrading so that you can train your staff Understand the implications of upgrading and make the necessary preparations
Thank you!
