Students individually presented information about Clara Barton, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Daniel Boone, Jackie Robinson, Ancient Greece, Native Americans, Cowboys and the life cycle of a butterfly. These second graders are ready for third grade!
5 ETCA Field Day, Duck Derby Elementary students enjoyed a bounce house, field day activities and duck derby to end the school year!
6 Students Named Semifinalists in National Challenge Eleven students have been named three of eight national semifinalist teams in the Nucor Strength of Steel Challenge, and will receive $1,500 per team and a trip to Charlotte, North Carolina to attend the final judging event. The Nucor Strength of Steel Challenge is a special challenge by Nucor, the largest producer of steel in the United States, and is open to a select group of 12 to 18 year olds from Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. Teams of students are challenged to showcase the strength of steel by designing a steel structure for the home, school or car. The invention must hold a minimum of five pounds and include recyclable steel. I am very proud of my students designs, said Cayse Chitty, ETCA physics teacher. They always exceed my expectations in their projects, and really push themselves to the limit. I hope they do well. The three ETCA team members and their designs are as follows: Senior Sarah Beckendorff and juniors Abby McAdams, Taylor Preston and Blake Saenz designed and built an overcoat wrangler using a steel pole, a trailer hitch and horseshoes. (top picture) Senior Jessie Mitchell and juniors Patrick Bailey, Haley Robertson and Kailey Sullivan designed and built a magazine table of 100% recyclable galvanized steel scrap metal. (pictured at bottom left) Seniors Haleigh Edge and Loren Moore and junior Kaitlyn Gravois designed and built a spider plant holder using steel bars and steel washers. (pictured at bottom right) All three teams welded their project. The final judging event will take place June 9 and 10 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Each invention will be judged on design, strength, functionality and the percentage of steel and recycled steel used. The winning team will receive the Nucor Future Engineer National Champion award, a brainstorming session with a Nucor Engineer and $3,000.

12 ETCA Administration Mr. Wayne Boshears President Mr. Mike Gravois Dean of Students Mrs. Sue Walker Admissions Director PTF News PTF Officers needed for the school year Contact Sharon Beaver ETCA Newsletter Editor Lisa Buchanan Director of Public Relations East Texas Christian Academy 2448 Roy Road Tyler, Texas Main Office (903) Admissions (903) Fax (903) A Letter From The President What an amazing first year we have had at our Roy Road campus! God has certainly poured His blessings upon us all year long. From the decision to move the school to the largest scholarship amount ever offered to an ETCA graduating class, we have seen the power of prayer and the importance of faith. For over 30 years, ETCA has been educating students and preparing them to be the next generation of leaders. On our new campus, we are better equipped to offer the best Christian education and experience for those future leaders. Here, students feel closer to each other and fully enjoy the gymnasium as a space to play, practice and hold events. Classrooms are bigger, athletic facilities are more accessible and the land provides opportunities for additional growth and development. ETCA is growing and strengthening. Even in the midst of one of our worst economic down turns, our enrollment increased throughout the year, and we continue to receive new students each day. I thank you for your support throughout the year as we adjusted to our new campus. I pray God continues to place His hand on our students, faculty, staff, facilities and finances. We can t wait to see what God has in store for ETCA in the school year. I hope each family has a safe and happy summer! For His children, Wayne D. Boshears ETCA President
