2 Message from the ECA Executive Director I hope you are having a wonderful summer! A few reminders as we gear up to begin the school year: Transportation: If your child will need bus passes, please send me an by August 7, Lunch: Please go to the Pay For It website ( to set up or add payment to your child s lunch account. Changes: If you have any new contact information; new phone number, , home address, please let us know so we can update your child s file. Parent Responsibility Act: (State of Michigan School Code, signed June 2015) The "Parent Responsibility Act" adds truancy conditions to MCL b. If a child under the age of 16 does not meet the attendance requirements of the Michigan Revised School Code, the family independence program assistance group is prohibited from receiving assistance. The Michigan Revised School Code provides that a child s parent or guardian must send the child to a public school during the entire school year from age six to sixteen. MCL (1). If the truant child is aged sixteen and over, that child is removed from the program group and the rest of the group may continue to receive assistance. 3 Message from the ECA Career Counselor Summer is in full swing and I hope everyone is enjoying their well-deserved break! Here is some important news for parents and students: First, all parents whose child is currently taking an Edgenuity class should have received an from me about the Edgenuity Family Portal. Parents will be receiving weekly updates on their child's progress. Parents also have the option to get an activation code to access their child s account and get more detailed information on their child s course progress and grades. Second, if your place of employment would be interested in hosting our ECA students for their Senior Student Professional Experience in Network Systems Administration or Software Development, please let me know. Have a wonderful and relaxing summer! Reminders: Edgeunity: Edgeunity is our online courseware. All students have online courses to complete, which they can work on both at school and home. Some students have not completed their online course(s). Students must complete the online courses to graduate. If a student has not completed his or her online course, his or her parents will be contacted. ECA provides these online courses at no cost. Please, take advantage of this opportunity.

Parents will be receiving weekly e-mail updates on their child's progress.

Senior Activities: We are looking for parent volunteers to help with the coordination of Senior Activities for the school year. As a public charter high school, ECA is open to all students, subject to capacity limitations, and is located on ITT Technical Institute's campus.
