1 GUIDANCE NEWSLETTER September 11, 2015 COLLEGE APPLICATIONS GENEREAL INFORMATION Each issue of the guidance newsletter will highlight important information we receive in the school counseling office that we want to share with our parents and students. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Susan Snively. Senior Counselor, at or GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS You must have 21 credits and pass all 5 parts of the OGT to graduate. We are in the process of doing final check on your credits. You will get a graduation agreement from Mrs. Snively stating which credits you are still needing for graduation. If you are deficient, see her as soon as possible. COLLEGE VISITS You have 3 college visit days. Are you using them? The college visit is crucial. You need to pick up a visit form in the guidance office (forms are also available in the Guidance area of our district s website under Career/College Planning) and get Mrs. Bird s signature on the form prior to your visit. A college representative needs to sign your form while you are visiting and then you return the form to the attendance window upon returning to school. Remember to check the College Visit List to keep current on who is coming and when. If you want to visit with the representative, you will need to sign up in the Guidance Office at least one day prior to the visit. Please use the passes we provide to give to teachers. Many colleges have on-line applications and actually prefer you apply this way. If you do apply on-line, you need to request your transcript packet. If you don t have internet at home or you have a slow dial up connection, you may use the computers in our office to complete on-line applications. Common Application You fill out the application once and send it to all of your other schools! Check out the website to see if the schools on your list are common application schools. You should have your college applications/transcript request forms turned in to the Guidance Office by November 18 th if you would like for them to be mailed before Thanksgiving break. MILITARY INFORMATION If any senior plans to apply to a Military Academy, you have to have a congressional nomination. Check with a recruiter about the process. If you are interested in the military and need help contacting a recruiter stop in the Guidance Office. The military recruiters have scheduled visits during lunch periods, stop by to ask them military questions. APPLICATION CAMPAIGN On Friday, November 6 we will be conducting our annual Application Campaign during English 12 classes. Students will complete college application(s), meet with military recruiters, attend an Ohio Means Jobs session, etc.
