Ensure outstanding learning, teaching and assessment and the embedding of maths and English in all areas of the organisation. Responsibilities and accountabilities General Be a role model in maintaining a positive culture that embeds the College s values and beliefs through highly effective communication processes, that ensures students and staff feel valued, safe and supported Be a role model for outstanding employability skills and practices Develop and line manage the Pathway Leader for English, Maths and ICT and the Learning and Teaching Developer, ensuring the implementation of the College s human resources, health and safety and safeguarding policies, and actively promote equality and diversity in the College Represent the College positively and highly effectively in all dealings with external partners, parents, stakeholders and agencies Demonstrate exemplary communication practices in line with the whole College communication plan and own responsibilities and accountabilities Ensure that individual staff and teams are supported to maximise their effectiveness through continuing professional development arising from highly effective appraisal processes Develop plans, policies and procedures for all areas within scope of the post and ensure compliance across the College Take responsibility for own continuing professional development as agreed in the appraisal process 1

2 Undertake rigorous self-assessment of all areas within scope of the post and raise standards through pro-active quality improvement that is data driven Support learners and staff to improve their maths and English skills Be responsible for taking all appropriate measures to safeguard young people and promote their welfare Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by line manager. Responsibilities and accountabilities Detailed Lead on the development of the training and development plan for learning, teaching and assessment for all staff involved in formal and informal learning. Liaise with Human Resources to ensure a clear link with the College s training plan. In conjunction with Human Resources plan the College-wide training days, including conducting effective evaluation of the events Line manage the Functional Skills Pathway Leader and the Learning and Teaching Developer. Develop and maintain effective external partnerships to support the quality improvement activities across the College, and particularly in relation to learning, teaching and assessment. Keep abreast of local and national quality initiatives, advising senior leaders and staff as appropriate. Implement the Quality Improvement Strategy across the College, including the annual quality improvement cycle and all processes that underpin it. Work with managers of learner facing departments to embed quality improvement processes. Produce and use data reports on a range of measures to monitor progress, including learner attendance, success rates, etc. In conjunction with the Vice Principal Quality and Curriculum, oversee the selfassessment process across the College, contributing to the College s self-assessment report and quality improvement plan. Oversee the assessment and standardisation processes across the curriculum, ensuring consistency and high standards. Manage relationships with awarding organisations and ensure that internal processes meet external standards. Oversee the College s internal and external verification processes including the tracking of EV/moderator reports, identifying actions, developing improvement plans and managing risk. Undertake the role of Quality Nominee for Pearson/Edexcel. Where non-accredited programmes are assessed through the RARPA Framework, ensure the process meets the required standards. Proactively liaise with the MIS department to make effective use of data from Databridge throughout the curriculum, for the continued improvement of the 2

3 learner experience, progress and outcomes. Working with the Curriculum Manager and the Student Services and Progression Manager ensure the effective progress of learners, including Progress Reviews, Individual Learning Plans and other key processes. Lead on the active promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across the College, including the implementation of the College s EDI objectives. Lead on the improvement of English and maths across the College, for learners and staff. In liaison with the Learner Leadership Coordinator, oversee the implementation of the cycle for annual learner feedback on a range of experiences, as part of the Learner Leadership Strategy and ensure effective use of that feedback in quality improvement. In conjunction with Pathway Leaders, the Learning and Teaching Developer and other managers, implement the College s Information and Learning Technologies (ILT) Strategy to provide innovative learning and assessment opportunities. Where appropriate take part in the budget setting process ensuring cost-effective provision. Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by line manager. 3
