1 Job Description for: Responsible to: Head of Academic Standards Director of Performance & Academic Standards POST SUMMARY: The post holder will, by working with appropriate Directors and Academic Managers, contribute to the College s strategic priorities and drive up academic standards and the levels of performance required in an outstanding organisation. Leading on quality improvement and experience strategies to provide outstanding quality and responsiveness in Teaching, Learning and Assessment, maximising the learner experience and success across a range of measures. Ensure compliance with college academic polices and procedures including auditing of data. To have responsibility for the management and success of the improvement strategies to raise academic standards and performance for 14 16, 16 19, adult, HE, apprenticeships, traineeships, subcontractors and commercial activity. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST 1. Share, communicate and contribute to the College s vision, mission and values and develop the College model to drive the culture and performance to achieve excellence. 2. Develop of an innovative teaching, learning and assessment strategy focussed on achieving excellence. To produce a three year teaching and learning action plan plus annual review. 3. Working closely with the Head of Academic Support to develop teaching, learning and assessment strategies which compliment the college attendance strategy and policy ensuring key performance targets are met and exceeded 4. Ensure levels of learner attendance are accurately reported and data is available to analyse key groups, ages, modes of attendance etc. 5. Continue to improve and develop the performance culture of Bromley College analysing trends and developing interventions to raise standards and pursue excellence in all areas of Academic Standards. 6. Develop a range of effective quality assurance mechanisms and compliance systems which lead to continued performance improvement 7. Ensure all staff comply with relevant college policies and procedures relating to the areas identified within the scope of the job role. 8. Development, management, monitoring and analysis of the observation process ensuring robust, valid and accurate findings. Instigate other informal mechanisms to capture the experience of learners in the classroom, workshop, realistic working environment, in the work place, learning centres and virtual environments

2 9. Co-ordinate the production of the College level self assessment process including validation of judgements. Ensure curriculum area reports are completed timely and consistent with College guidance and standards 10. To be responsible for the teaching and learning quality management including: College quality systems and processes for teaching and learning Contributing to the college self assessment in relation to teaching and learning College quality improvement planning in relation to teaching and learning. 11. To manage the implementation and delivery of EFQM, ISO 900, Bromley Experience Advantage Model and associated self assessment functions and improvement planning to achieve Recognised for Excellence status. 12. Develop a comprehensive suite of data reports to enable curriculum areas and senior managers team to be able to analyse performance in their respective areas of responsibility. 13. To develop intervention strategies in conjunction with curriculum and support managers which will enhance the current processes and ensure all students are able to reach their full potential. 14. To develop robust assessment policies and related strategies ensuring awarding body criteria is successfully met supported by robust internal verification systems and monitoring. 15. Maintain and achieve outstanding performance and excellent standard through the monitoring and implementation of quality strategies to achieve key college performance indicators to maximise learner s attendance, retention, achievement, success, progression and quality of experience 16. Identify key cross college and team training and development needs in terms of teaching, learning, assessment and quality in order to increase performance and standards 17. Develop and maintain approaches to share good practice to improve teaching, learning and assessment strategies. 18. Manage a devolved budget and ensure that all resources human, physical, and financial are deployed efficiently, cost effectively and within agreed allocation without any unauthorised overspend. 19. Devise relevant Quality Improvement Plans to address key areas for improvement and ensure action planning at curriculum level is robust, accurate and delivers the change necessary to improve outcomes across a range of metrics. 20. To ensure that the college has a structured formal lesson observation process, and develop the use of peer review to improve performance. 21. Working closely your line manager and the Director of Human Resources to develop a comprehensive performance management process for teaching and support staff. 22. Design, implementation and management of innovative strategies to develop the learning environment, including learning zones/libraries, to make sure they meet the needs of staff and learners.

To prepare teaching, learning and assessment for Ofsted inspection and ensure processes are Ofsted ready at all times and quality audits are carried out throughout the year and mini inspections or area reviews/incubation where required. 24. To chair or to be a member of the appropriate committees and working groups in connection with identified responsibilities. 25. To line manage and appraise appropriate staff to ensure high expectations and academic standards are achieved. 26. Represent the College at internal and external meetings (e.g. External Quality Review) as appropriate and carry out day and evening Duty Manager responsibilities as required. 27. To lead on cross College theme(s) to develop outstanding working practices that lead to increased student success that leads towards skilled sustainable employment. General Duties: 1. The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed. 2. Ensure compliance with College requirements, policies, systems and procedures throughout the Academy, ensuring that accurate and up-to-date records and documentation are kept and held. 3. To carry out additional responsibilities as requested by Senior College staff and the Principal. PERSON SPECIFICATION: Qualifications: A 1 st degree or equivalent professional qualification Teaching qualification (DTTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) A Management Qualification or Quality Framework Accreditation Minimum of level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete Equality and diversity training or willingness to undertake Knowledge, skills and experience: Experience of development and implementation of EFQM, or similar (ISO 9000) Experience of successfully leading and improving teaching, learning and assessment strategies within a curriculum area or cross college. Evidence of managing and ensuring an observation

4 process that makes a positive impact on success rates and being an accurate observer. Evidence of leading an outstanding area and developing strategies which have a demonstrable impact on learner outcomes, including raising attendance, retention and achievement Experience of working in education with strong academic standards at its core. (e.g. schools, 6 th form may be an advantage) A full understanding, in-depth knowledge and experience of the Ofsted inspection process, particularly around teaching, learning and assessment and how to drive the quality improvement strategies and processes to achieve excellence Knowledge of government education policy, funding and how to implement performance and standard measures to meet all areas. Grade 1 teacher Evidence of use of ILT within teaching and how to improve teaching, learning and assessment opportunities to improve learners value added scores Part-time Ofsted Inspector or EV Made a positive impact and experience of a Cross college role that has made an impact on learners success and/or experience Other qualities: Excellent Team Player who is able to move forward complicated projects Excellent communicator both verbal and written. Excellent presentation skills Proven track record of tackling poor performers and making appropriate interventions. Ability to develop appropriate reports, interpret information, develop intervention strategies and produce reports Experience of implementing E & D within the curriculum Commitment to safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults Commitment to equality and diversity A successful track record of influencing and implementing processes. Excellent analytical and IT skills
