2 Our Business Plan Our Vision To seek excellence in all that we do. We will:» Promote equity and excellence» Ensure that all students become successful learners, confident and creative individuals and active and informed citizens» Build the capacity of the whole child to meet their academic as well as social and emotional developmental needs OUR SCHOOL OUR BUSINESS PLAN Comet Bay College is a large, modern, state of the art educational facility catering for students in Years 7-12, located in the coastal suburb of Secret Harbour in the South Metropolitan Region. The College became an Independent Public School in 2012, and underwent its first Independent Review in March 2014, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback and commendations in the areas of student learning, quality of the learning environment and sustainability. The College is part of the Comet Bay Professional Learning Community (CBPLC) which also comprises Comet Bay Primary School, Golden Bay Primary School, Secret Harbour Primary School and Singleton Primary School. The Business Plan references and implements the Department of Education Corporate Framework including the Strategic Plan for WA Schools and the Director General s Classroom First Strategy. The plan outlines an overview of the strategic intent of the College towards quality improvement strategies within academic and non-academic areas. It has been informed by school performance data; student, staff and community feedback, and findings from the Independent Public School Review. The plan forms part of a suite of documents including annual Operational Plans, Learning Area Plans, Annual Report, Workforce Plan and the Delivery and Performance Agreement. OUR SELF-ASSESSMENT As part of the Comet Bay Way we utilise the National School Improvement Tool (ACER 2013) to make judgments about where we are at on our improvement journey, to set goals and design strategies for improvement, and to monitor and demonstrate improvement over time. Our focus areas are explicitly aligned to the nine domains from the National School Improvement Tool. The College continues to build a thriving coaching culture where there is collective, shared responsibility for maximising the potential of all. We utilise a growth coaching model for achieving systematic progress and as a framework for the development and review of all layers of school planning and assessment. Successful students are at the core of our school improvement, with both academic and social and emotional standards the central focus. All operations at Comet Bay College are ultimately evaluated in relation to their impact on student achievement and progress.
3 Our vision is underpinned by a professional learning community foundation, which is driven by the following three elements: 1. All LEARNING students and staff are engaged and committed to their ongoing learning. COLLABORATION 2.Helping all students and staff requires a collaborative and collective effort. RESULTS 3.To assess our effectiveness the College focuses on results and uses that evidence to inform and improve our professional practice.
4 Our Areas An explicit improvement agenda Analysis and discussion of data A culture that promotes learning Comet Bay College has established and is driving a strong improvement agenda, grounded in evidence from research and practice and expressed in terms of improvements in measurable student outcomes. Explicit and clear targets for improvement have been set and communicated.» Develop an annual Operational Plan and Learning Area Plans aligned to the focus areas.» Monitor progress towards targets and systematically evaluate initiatives and programs in relation to their effectiveness in producing desired improvements in student and staff learning and performance. A high priority is given to schoolwide analysis and discussion of systematically collected data on student outcomes. Data analyses consider overall school performance as well as performance of individual students, evidence of improvement/ regression over time, performances in comparison with similar schools and measures of growth across the years of schooling.» Collect, analyse and use a range of student achievement and well-being data to track individual student achievement and progress to increase student connection to their learning.» Continue to build staff capacity in analysing and interpreting a range of school data. Our College is driven by a deep belief that every student is capable of successful learning. A high priority is given to building and maintaining positive and caring relationships between staff, students and parents. There is a strong collegial culture of mutual trust and support among teachers and school leaders and parents are treated as partners in the promotion of student learning and well-being. Our College works to maintain a learning environment that is safe, respectful, tolerant, inclusive and that promotes intellectual rigour.» Promote and maintain an environment reflective of our high standards so that all students will engage and progress in their learning.» Place a high priority on student and staff well-being with processes in place to support professional, academic, and social and emotional learning.

It has school-wide policies, practices and programs in place to assist in identifying and addressing student needs. Flexible structures and processes enable the College to respond appropriately to the needs of individual learners.» Allocate all human, physical and financial resources in alignment with the Business Plan.» Engage with the broader community (where applicable) as a resource in the development and delivery of learning. Comet Bay College has built a school-wide, professional team of highly able teachers, including teachers who take an active leadership role beyond the classroom. Strong procedures are in place to encourage a school-wide shared responsibility for student learning and success, and to encourage the development of a culture of continuous professional improvement that includes classroom-based learning, mentoring and coaching arrangements.» Continue to implement the PROPELL (Providing Real Opportunities for Professional, Education, Learning and Leadership) targeted professional learning strategy in all learning areas to retain and develop high quality teachers. Comet Bay College has a coherent, sequenced plan for curriculum delivery that ensures consistent teaching and learning across the year levels. The plan, within which evidence based teaching practices are embedded, and to which assessment and reporting processes are aligned, has been developed and refined collaboratively to provide a shared vision for curriculum practice.» Implement the Australian Curriculum and Senior School WACE courses as applicable and dependent on advised timelines.» Continue to develop an explicit, coherent, sequenced plan for curriculum delivery to ensure seamless transition from the primary schools to the College through the CBPLC.

Teachers are encouraged and supported to monitor closely the progress of individuals, identify learning difficulties and tailor classroom activities to levels of readiness and need.» Continue to support the effective delivery of Gifted and Talented Education, Specialist, Extension, ATAR and Vocational Education and Training.» Monitor the progress of individual students and continually adjust teaching practices in curriculum delivery in response to individuals progress. Comet Bay College recognises that highly effective teaching is the key to improving student learning throughout the school. The College encourages the use of research based teaching practices in all classrooms to ensure every student is engaged, challenged and learning successfully. All teachers understand and use effective teaching methods, including explicit instruction, to maximise student learning.» Continue development and implementation of the Comet Bay Way teaching and learning culture to establish and communicate clear, consistent understandings of expectations concerning the use of highly effective teaching strategies throughout the school. Comet Bay College actively seeks ways to enhance student learning and well-being by partnering with parents and families, other education and training institutions, local businesses and community organisations. Parents and families are recognised as part of the College community and partners in their childrens education. Partnerships are strategically established to address identified student needs and operate by providing access to experiences, support and intellectual and/or physical resources not available within the College.» Continue to build upon the Comet Bay Professional Learning Community (CBPLC) K-12 strategic improvement initiative.» Continue to identify and develop community, education and business partnerships to support improved student achievement and/or well-being.
7 Our Targets The College has developed a robust process of annual self-assessment that is based upon collaborative use of evidence related to the strategic improvement targets. The inclusion of a broad array of targets encompassing all learning areas, years of schooling and dimensions of student learning (achievement, progress and engagement) is an approach that continues to build a whole of school improvement culture.
