2 Thank yu fr yur interest The Hward Cunty s Gifted and Talent Visual Arts Saturday Enrichment Prgram is cmprised f students identified thrugh a cuntywide frmal screening prcess. This rigrus prgram prvides students the pprtunity t explre a wide variety f art prblems related t classic and cntemprary fine art genres; students explre varied methds f creating artwrk and develp their persnal artistic vices. Field trips and guest artists demnstratins may be scheduled t rund ut the enrichment experience. The prgram meets n select Saturday mrnings fr three-hur classes (times and dates TBA). There will als be an rientatin meeting fr students and their parents/guardians t mre fully acquaint them with the expectatins f the prgram and t intrduce students and their families t the instructrs and the ther participants. Parents will need t ensure that their child has transprtatin t and frm the classes (lcatin TBA). Hw may yu qualify? Applying t the Gifted and Talented Art Prgram f Hward Cunty requires creativity, cmmitment, and an abve average ability in the visual arts. Yur applicatin t the prgram requires that yu submit a digital prtfli (yur art teacher will cmplete the digitizing prcess) cntaining five cmpnents: three (3) samples f yur artwrk which demnstrate specific criteria utlined in this packet; ne (1) sample f yur persnal artwrk and the planning prcesses yu fllwed t create it; and ne (1) statement abut why yu wuld like t jin the class. Finally, yu will als need t speak t yur HCPSS art teacher abut yur interest in the prgram, wh will cmplete a recmmendatin and fficially submit yur applicatin materials n yur behalf. Once all steps have been cmpleted, yur final eligibility will be determined by a G/T Art Cmmittee, cnsisting f a grup f K-12 Hward Cunty Public Schl art teachers trained in identifying gifted and talented visual art students, wh will review and scre yur prtfli. 3 T Begin Creating yur Prtfli The infrmatin included in this packet will guide yu thrugh the required art prblems and specify criteria that shuld be evident in yur submissin. T prepare yur prtfli, please wrk clsely with yur art teacher. This will help t ensure that yu understand and fulfill the requirements, that yur prtfli reflects yur very best effrts, and that it presents a rich bdy f wrk clearly demnstrating yur cmmitment and interest in the visual arts. Hwever, be sure yu have explred three-dimensinality in a truly remarkable way n the remaining sides. 4 Prblem IV: The Artistic Practice (Creative Prcess) (ne finished artwrk and its planning images required) This prblem requires that yu chse an artwrk that yu extensively planned ut befre cmpleting it. A: Frm yur best wrk, chse an artwrk in any medium. This wrk must be an riginal cmpsitin cmpleted within the last year. B: Include evidence f the thught prcesses and planning/practice yu explred while rganizing yur ideas and experimenting with materials befre cmpleting the final artwrk. This statement shuld be a vide f yu explaining why yu wuld like t be in the prgram and what yu hpe t gain frm the experience. The Saturday Gifted and Talented Visual Arts Enrichment Prgram is an advanced prgram in which students are held t rigrus standards. These standards include a high level f cmmitment and respnsibility, including attendance, class preparatin and hmewrk, studi participatin, and perseverance t reslve given art prblems. At the end f each semester/sessin the prgram s teacher(s) will jury students perfrmance t determine acceptance int next year s prgram.
